Client paid. I didn't receive the money

Client said he paid for our service... $240. He sent me a copy of the PayPal receipt transaction he received so I have the transaction number. The (our) email was correct. All looks in order. He was paying off of a PP invoice... said he just clicked the button on the invoice.
Money was never put in our account. Does not show up on Account Summary.
What do I do? Who do I contact?
First time we've had any problem with PP.
I looked on the FAQ seeking info on this problem but didn't see anything.

On your end three things should happen - you should get an email notification that you received a payment, there should be a record of the transaction in your Account Transaction History and assuming your account is verified, etc., the funds minus the transaction processing fees would be deposited into your PayPal Account Balance.
The sender's end should show the status of the transaction - per your post, it appears that nothing has happened on your end. Check with the sender to see what the status of the transaction is.

I never received a notification of payment.
There is no record of the payment in my account summary.
Client sent me copy of the receipt he received from PP.
He was paying off of a PP invoice.
It was July 21.
I sent an email to PP and they responded with a form-letter.
I replied to that saying that none of the items they suggested were applicable and I sent them a screenshot of the receipt email the client sent me. He said the money was taken from his account.
So where did it go? How got it?
We are not new to PP and this is first time we've had a problem.
I hope we can get our $240 without to much of a hassle. If we can't or if it is, we'll leave and go to Stripe or some other service. We have options. I'll be interested to see how proactive PP is in resolving our problem. The mark of a good company is not just how well they do on the routine but how the sovle customer problems.
I'll report back.

The same thing has happen to me if you get it fix let me know. I ask pp two times for help and no come back.

I don't know what the problem was. After I posted the above, the amount magically appeared in my account listing.
I'm surprised that PP was not more pro-active in helping you. Had it been me and if no one took an interest in my issue I'd be moving to Stripe or some other service, perhaps from this list.

I also had this problem. I tried before a while ago to resolve this issue with no luck. Now, I see other people had issues, too. Now, I keep getting asked to register as a business, wcich I am not. Is there any way to get the money from this transation without becoming a business? I think it is not only a bit deceptive for me to register as one, it is a big hassle to then start receiving an unending stream of income tax forms on non-existent business.

Same thing here happened 10/30/2016. Set up PayPal acct. had it verified received photo copy of "PayPal" Transaction from buyer, but no email notification or activity posting from PayPal. What gives?

I would verify with PayPal whether that is an actual payment because documents can be doctored. If it is not showing in your account, you may not have been paid.
