Business Account restricted for no valid reason over forename dispute.

I would like to warn other people considering conducting business over PayPal to stand well clear based on my experience.

After years of trading over PayPal and using it throughout my daily life I was hit by a request to provide proof of my identity when I realised the forename on my account was incorrect despite registering with the correct address, bank, and e-mail under my correct forename.

I queried on rectifying my forename and followed the instructions by providing two forms of ID such as Passport and Provisional License along with a bank statement. These documents all contained my correct forename and matched against the verfied bank account on my PayPal.

Months of dispute over the matter and my account is fully limited saying I cannot appeal the decision. They stole my money by preventing me dealing with a case regarding non-receipt / faulty goods in value exceeding £100.00 alongside countless damages to my business model due to inability pay via PayPal.

Several attempts of contacting them via a Complaint/Message centre has fallen flat and they ignore me.

I sent a final warning to them this morning given 14 working days notice before I seek legal action for their criminal acts.

My final advice to people looking at PayPal as a viable solution; consider looking elsewhere first.

Hopefully a PayPal advisor will actually read this (if they really exist which I doubt) and deal with the matter.

Advisors on here do not work for paypal as this is a ''user to user'' help forum.

Have you tried this?  >>> I had to leave a gap between the @ and paypal or it would not let me post it.........strange that !!

Thank you for the response, I previously contacted that e-mail awhile back and never heard anything so I thought it was only for sending documents. However, I will try again and see if I can get a response from support. Thank you.

Paypal used to offer 3 types of account-personal,premier and business.

Then it phased out premier and many of us who have premier account are urged to upgrade to business.

Back then,Paypal does not expect much from us in regards to company registration, etc,we just pick a name and continue to conduct business selling from home.

It looks like with the new laws,Paypal is paying more attention to business accounts so let this be a warining we should all be more careful choosing a name for our business and what we entered in our business account.

@kernowlass @lancelotme

E-mailed complaint-response@ paypal.com on the day I posted this and I've not heard anything at all yet, how does it take for a response? (They also never responded to my support request through the centre despite saying I'd hear back in 24 hours.)

I am lost for actions at the moment, already moved credit/debit card management to another solution now. But I'd still like PayPal for the protection of buying, providing options to my customers.

You get buyer and seller protection using credit card, and by the venue provider where  you buy/sell your items.

But it is your fault not to change the incorrect forename earlier ,now it is too late.

@kernowlass@lancelotme It was the requesting to correct the problem albiet a minor matter of incorrect forename that PayPal said would not be an issue, I was told to send my proof of identity to compaint-response @ paypal.com and then they rejected my documents stating the forename did not match my account. Of course they don't match, I went around and around for months like this. Even filing several complaints to no avail.

Out of the blue they decided to suspend my account without warning and block all outgoing/incoming payments, their support completely ignore every contact attempt and according to the account 'I cannot appeal the decision'

They damaged my business from the ground-up as my payments we're handled by an agreement between merchant and PayPal and this resulted in late invoice payments, additional fees, and issues arranging alternate payment methods. Especially places that only accept PayPal as I cannot even use any of my debit/credit cards due to being linked to an existing account.

I have payments or refunds coming in and PayPal are stealing them from me, I had a payment due in for £25 and it was rejected by PayPal so I lost my money and my goods/services. A refund was being processed by another retailer for failure to supply the goods/service in the region of £50 but they could only refund the transaction via PayPal. Another £50.00 lost at the expense of trusting PayPal with my money. I also lost an additional £140.00 on top for a product I never recieved and cannot dispute.

A bank would never get away with such actions that I deem illegal and criminal where they're not doing anything in my best interest and instead abusing me for free cash in their Christmas bonus funds. They ingore contact by all e-mail accounts I know, via the dedicated centre, complaints system, and so far no luck contacting over phone either because I am just on god **bleep** hold.

They best be ready because I have a lawyer at arms and I will start a war with them; they will be paying the costs of legal fees, compensation, damages, and covering loss of work due to ill health caused by the stress of PayPal.

what exactly is a forename?

first name,last name,surname?

and how is it different?

what is the forename registered with Paypal and what is your real forename?

I have never heard of the word forename, what country are you based?

(you cant just blame Paypal, the fact you have registered the wrong forename and merrily conduct business for a long period, without correcting your so called forename, you have to accept some responsibility of the outcome, just like I keep driving after my driver license expired and then I was in an accident and guess what, the policeman would not take any excuse!)

what exactly is a forename? It's the formal way of saying 'first name' in the UK. It's related to the word surname, the 'fore' means foremost meaning 'positioned first'. I am not sure if many people in UK from the younger generation especially know the polite, formal langauge; I just spent a lot of time with my grandparents. Hopefully educated a few people though.

Example:

Forename (First Name | Cristian Name | Given Name): Jack

Middle (Gifted Name - usually two at most, typically inherited from ancestors): Linten Anne

Surname (Last Name | Family Name): Oaksworth

So a full name would be written as: Mr. Jack Linten Anne Oaksworth. (Abbr. Jack L A Oaksworth)

When I registered the account I filled out all fields including e-mail with my actual forename, everything on the account confirms this with exception to the part under My Account; the reason being autocomplete replaced the forename with that of my mothers without my initial knowledge.

In other words my account would should as Sherry Alexis Ronald Dykes instead of George Alexis Ronald Dykes despite three out of four parts of the name being correct. The bank account associated, the debit/credit cards, the invoices, identity documentation, and everything else are under George Alexis Ronald Dykes.

This is why I don't understand PayPal causing such a comotion over a simple mistake when no security risk is present given all the financial aspects are under the correct name and match against my e-mail, cards, invoices.

Whilst I may be partly responsible, it also holds true that a bank wouldn't dispute such a silly issue when overwhelming evidence of a genuine mistake can be provided; there is no indication that anyone with that forename had anything linked to the account and the correct forename has matched my e-mail, cards, bank etc since day one.

I wouldn't mind opening another account but they're holding me hostage and blocking all my payment methods, whilst restricting my finances and not even directing them to the associated account; practically stealing money constantly due to the account status. Worst off all they won't respond or pick up the phone, so I will have to wait till outside peak time before trying and calling again; unfortunately its at the point I would lose more hours chasing them / hourly wages than the value of what they owe.

@QuantumRevenger

thanks for the explanation.

but you said-

In other words my account would should as Sherry Alexis Ronald Dykes instead of George Alexis Ronald Dykes despite three out of four parts of the name being correct. The bank account associated, the debit/credit cards, the invoices, identity documentation, and everything else are under George Alexis Ronald Dykes.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sherry is a lady name and George is a man name,so I can see someone would be concerned,

3 out of 4 names are correct but a man cannot be a woman and a woman cannot be a man,it could be a spouse's account or a daughter or a relative(female) that you are using.

Bank does care, there is a guy here who has problem connecting his bank account with his PAYPAL account as the first name is different.

But with a local bank, you can walk in with your ids etc and know the banker and speak with him,but PAYPAL exists in cyberspace,it goes by what you have entered and what you upload as evidence.

I am afraid how you are going to convince Paypal that you are registered under a lady name?

maybe someone can chime in?

how much is in the account now?
