Do i have to have a business to get and use the paypal card reader for personal use? I want to use the paypal card reader for a garage sale etc. But i downloaded the app and its asking for a business name and cant continue until i provide one. For personal use should i just get the square?

For a business name just add your own name. Many businesses actually use their personal name as the business name, especially for a sole proprietorship. So it's simple and legitimate to use your own name for a business name.
All bulk credit card processing companies are required by federal regulations to issue a 1099-K at the end of the year whenever you reach a certain level of gross receipts for tax purposes.
