Possible Fake Mail Theft Claim By Customer

This customer is from Etsy. She paid me for a necklace and she recieved her necklace 10 weeks ago. She needed a replacement chain because she broke the one that was originally from the necklace. So I got $7 from her using PayPal and she sent the necklace back to me using a paper letter envelope   Upon arrivle of the envelope I notice a rip in the corner of it and scuff marks ( Noting surprising from using a letter envelope ) But I felt it and I didn't feel the necklace. I ripped the letter open and seen there was nothing inside but a paper with the persons address and phone number. I contacted the person immediatly and she went off , sending me about 5 emails. She stated in one of the emails that first thing in the morning she was going to contact the postal theft inspectors. I told her its not uncommon for the paper envelopes to go through some rough times from post office to post office and not to worry about the necklace I can remake it no problem. I asked what do I do with the envelope since she contacted the theft inspectors. She first asked me if law enforcement can pick the envelope up at my place because she says the already envolved them. Then in another email she told me to hold onto it and put it into a zip lock back and wait for instructions per theft inspector and go ahead with remaking her necklace. So I was like hmmm, ok. I was getting a feeling this isn't right. So I contacted her and asked what post office she contacted here in my local area and what is the number she has for the inspector ..she did not answer me and is getting angry at me now because she wants her necklace remade. But I said I decided to hold off on the necklace remaking until I can get ahold of the person she is talking to and get some information in this " post theft claim " .

I have refunded her the $7 for the replacement chain so I don't owe her money . The only problem is the missing necklace from the ripped envelope that she is saying someone did. I just need proof that there is a case open and then I can remake her necklace. Do I need to go to my post office and make sure that there is a claim open? I don't want to be held responsible for a necklace that fell out because she didn't secure it in a proper mailing envelope.

Sounds like you're dealing with a wacko who's just trying to scam you.

Most likely she did not file any claims, that would be way too much effort but, it would not hurt to check with the PO on their procedures for these kinds of things.

I agree. The last email I sent her I told her that we both needed to be contacted by an inspector, not just her. She sent me a reply back asking why I don't just make her the necklace even though she is pursuing the theft. She talks about DNA testing and saying both our DNA's are eliminated . I asked myself " How is that possible when you don't have the envelope?!"   .. That is not a good enough answer for me from her. I will deffenitly go to my PO tomorrow and ask how they handle this situation.
