Emailed and also spoke to Paypal as I was interested in buying an ebike motor and wanted to know whether it is covered by PP. The motor was used, but in as new condition on eBay. The answer is a big NO. The reason is the vehicle exclusion clause. PP say it covers ALL MOTORS. That means all electric motors - NEW or USED. I gave PP an example of a new motor for a fridge or a hair dryer and they said that is still a vehicle. PP say you have to connect it to check/test it so that connection invalidates PP's protection. As a lawyer I said why can't they actually draft a clear clause excluding all MOTORS and not rely on the vague weaselly words in the vehicle exclusion clause? I was told that the vehicle clause makes it very clear that any motor is a vehicle. So next time you get out your vehicle to dry your hair think of that clear PP definition. To make it even clearer eBay just told me that the motor is a cycle part and NOT a vehicle and and is covered by the eBay protection - but should I believe them? PP not impressed - make it clear what you exclude and don't rely on your weasel words.
