I've been with PayPal for a lil over 2 years now and it has been helpful when I purchase things online; however, whenever there has been a problem, PayPal has FAILED miserably . The customer services reps, all the way up to the main manager, are there to do nothing more than explain to you why they cannot fix anything. As a result of my usage of PayPal, I have incurred 5 overdraft charges at my bank, had my account fraudulently charged without recourse, paid unreasonable fees, and I had over $200 just hanging in limbo for about two weeks. I spent 45 mins on the phone with them today, and spent 30 of those minutes on hold. I spoke with the agent, his supervisor, and then the main supervisor. None of them could tell me why a simple money transfer was taking more than 5 day to complete. In fact, the process, according to PayPal & my bank had not even been initiated, yet PayPal claimed to be unable to do anything to stop it (which is a HUGE lie), and they refused to provide me with the transfer info so that I could put a stop on it at my bank. I eventually got my bank to help me sort it out....at the cost of a $34.00 stop payment fee. There was a time when PayPal was the only ticket in town, but that's no longer the case. There are several other agencies out there that offer the same or better services with far superior customer support than PayPal. In researching on how to file a customer complaint with PayPal encountered a number of interesting website dedicated to PayPal horror stories. I would suggest PayPal customers at least review the info on them because there is some VERY interesting info on them that is VERY verifiable. PayPal has shady business practices from the beginning, and from what I've read, they only made minimal changes when forced to. For example, in 2002 PayPal was sued by Plaintiffs Roberta Toher and Jeffrey Resnick for placing inappropriate restrictions or other limits on customers' accounts and engaged in several other improper practices. Based on these improper practices, the lawsuit sought damages for money unjustly held, negligence, and violations of consumer protection statutes. Rather than dealing with a lengthy public trial and being forced to clean up their act, PayPal decided to settle out of court and pay $9.25 Million Dollars to Tens of Thousands of PayPal merchants who processed with PayPal between October 1, 1999 and January 31, 2004. Instead of a Judge forcing PayPal to change their questionable business practices, PayPal agreed to pay the settlement and walk away from the entire allegation. In short, there are several worthy contenders out there, and I refuse to allow PayPal to continue to cause havoc in my financial life. PayPal you lost a customer and I assure that I will do my best to share my PayPal horror stories with everyone I can.
