This is a crazy story. I have been trying to get help from people in Paypal since February. Last fall, Paypal sent an email which I did not see. According to the email, the money in my account - maybe $1200 USD - needed to be vacated because Mexico made a change to some sort of law called "Fintech". At that time, the Mexican bank account information which was on file came from an account that had been registered in 2010. But, the card expired many years ago, and the account was closed in 2015. Apparently, on account of "Fintech" Paypal used an automated process to attempt to send the money to the closed account in the bank, even though the card was expired, and the account had been closed for five years. In my Paypal account, the first attempt shows that the transfer bounced. The bank says that it was rejected because I no longer have an account. But, Paypal shows a second attempt. And, the second attempt does not show it being bounced. But, the bank says that it would have bounced because there is no account, and the money could not have been received. In fact, the bank says that Paypal ought to show proof that the bank received money. To date, Paypal has never shown any proof that the bank received any money. The bank was able to trace my original account opened in 2010 after I found my own bank records from 2010 and took them to the bank. But, the bank says that the last movement in my account happened in 2015. Now, Paypal demands a letter from the bank about an account that I do not have, even though Paypal has never shown any proof of anything. When I contact Paypal, I am told thirty different things by thirty different people both in English and in Spanish. The problem is that they seem unable to grasp the facts: A. I never authorized any of this. B. My bank account was closed in 2015. C. Paypal has yet to provide a shred of proof showing that the bank received money. D. While Paypal maintains that they are communicating with someone in the bank, the local bank branch has asked for a name, and they have not provided it. E. Paypal says that a "team" is working on my case, yet they can never tell me who it is that is in charge of my case. The local Santander bank has been 100% helpful, even though I am not their client any longer. But, Paypal continues to raise the bar without offering a sliver of proof. Also, the fact that the money bounced the first time, and the fact that Santander can easily confirm that I have not had an account since 2015, should be enough to make Paypal admit that their sending money to a closed account was a mistake. Also, in my Paypal records, the account where they sent the money does not even appear probably because the card was expired. So, how can they send money to a closed account that is no longer listed???????? I have been communicating with Paypal patiently for six months. And, it is reaching a point where I am becoming more concerned about the principle of what is going on than even the money.
