In August 2018 I sold a set of Bentley rear lights on eBay to a customer in the USA. Months later he said they were not working (we test everything before we send) a dispute was set up and we offered a full refund and paid for the items to be returned at a cost of £94. The buyer refused to return items and eBay ruled in my favour. Approx month later the buyer set up a chargeback via his credit card company, I sent all proof of return shipping plus an email from eBay confirming previous procedures which supported my side of the dispute. However PayPal put my account into deficit whilst the dispute was ongoing, I was in constant contact with PayPal and it was agreed to leave account as it was until the dispute was resolved. Much to my amazement the purchasers credit card company upheld the chargeback, I immediately contacted PayPal who agreed with my objections and promised to set up a counterclaim to overturn the chargeback. A couple of weeks later I contacted PayPal to update myself on progress to be told that nothing could be done. I have asked PayPal to supply the relevant correspondence and lodged a formal complaint and requested a letter of final response which will be forwarded to the Financial Ombudsman as per their request. I have been advised by my solicitors to reimburse PayPal and the respective debt collectors Westcote the original chargeback amount of £795 but they refuse to take this as due to sales my account in now in the red for the lesser amount of £430.
