what is $use_local_certs ?

I am working on implementing IPN on my site.  I downloaded the sample code for PHP from https://github.com/paypal/ipn-code-samples.  Now I don't understand the variable: private $use_local_certs = true; The documentation describing this is not very clear to me.  What should this be set to for testing vs production?  Should I be using the cert folder in production or is that only for testing? Thanks Mike ... View more

Hey devs, Still looking for an answer to my questions.  I guess I can ask on SO if I don't get an answer here, but figured this would be a better option.  Specifically where do I put my API certificate that I have created?  And do I set '$use_local_certs' to true in the IPN code samples? Thanks! Mike ... View more

how to send test transaction to my sandbox account

I have set up a sandbox account with both business and personal accounts.  I created and downloaded an API certificate.  I'm not sure what do with that.  I have my site live on my own hosting plan.  Do I just throw the cert in the root of the live website?  How does it get used?  I am ultimately trying to figure out IPN.  I have downloaded the PHP code samples from here: https://github.com/paypal/ipn-code-samples  I modified the files accordingly and uploaded them to my website.  With my own API certificate, do I set '$use_local_certs' to true.  Then down in this code: if ($this->use_local_certs) { curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_CAINFO, __DIR__ . I set the location of my cert file that I had uploaded.   Now I am stuck.  I don't understand how to get a test transaction into my sandbox account.  I want know the IPN is working. Thanks! Mike ... add user info to DB before(or after) going to Payp...

I have developed a website for a client where a user fills in their contact info and then clicks a Paypal "Buy Now" button.  The client went into his Paypal account and created the "Buy Now" button and gave me the code for it.  Looks like a basic form with a couple hidden variables.  Now I simply want to enter the user info from the form on my page into my database before(or after, whichever is easier) the user gets taken to Paypal to enter their payment.  I am using PHP for this.  I figured I could have the Paypal button redirect to an intermediate PHP page that I create that first enters all the info into my DB and then automatically submits the form and hidden variables to Paypal.  There is probably an easier way to do this using Paypal's API.  I tried reading through some of the docs, but there is so many options, I'm not sure which one would be right for my situation.  For instance, the Board dropdown below, I wasn't even sure which option to select.  And I'm assuming I would have to have my client set it all up from his Paypal account?  Walking him through it might prove to be kind of difficult.  Any help would be much apprecatiated. Thanks Mike ... View more
