I am a fairly new (52 feedback at 100%) seller who recently sold a $370 item to a buyer for $89 plus shipping. The item left my house in PERFECT condition and I purchased insurance and delivery confirmation too. I got an email from the buyer today saying that the item (a prosthetic breast form) had an odor/ scent of sandalwood on it and she wants me to pay return shipping and give her a full refund since the item is "not as described" . (I had stated in the original ad that it was in NEW condition and returns were accepted within 7 days only if the item was not as described) I explained that since I have CSD / chemical sensitivity disorder our home is COMPLETELY fragrance free, pet free, chemical free, etc. and the item was not exposed to any fragrances and left my home with NO scent. I filed a USPS claim since the scent was not on the item when I shipped it. I got another email from the buyer saying that the box was intact and the scent was only on the inside where the form and case were so in her opinion it could not have been the shippers fault.. My guess is that she is lying and did not like the style of the form and she is trying to get a product refund and force me to pay return shipping too. I am VERY reluctantly willing to give her the refund if she returns the item in the condition it was shipped, even though I KNOW that I have done nothing wrong, because I know that Paypal/ Ebay almost always sides with the buyer regardless of the circumstances. I am not going to pay return shipping just to preserve my feedback score because that would be extortion. What if she returns it and it is not in saleable condition? What am I to do then? What options does a seller have when a buyer lies about the condition of the item received? I shouldn't have to refund her anything because I KNOW with complete certainty that I have done nothing wrong and my item was shipped EXACTLY as described? Do sellers have ANY other options?
