I’m very sorry to hear about the challenges with finding the API credentials.
Please note that you can upgrade your PayPal account to the Business type any time.
Once you complete that, please use the tips provided by @petej728 in a post above:
Log onto Paypal account.
Click on 'Profile'
Under 'Account Information' click on 'Request API credentials'
Next, I selcted option 1 - Set up PayPal API credentials and permissions
This time, I selected option 2 - View API Signature
This now showed me my API username, password and signature.
