I am having the same problem as your first example! I sold an item three days ago and the buyer paid immediately but it is still pending with the hourglass and it is now Wednesday. I called paypal on Monday night and a very confident agent told me he could sort it (turns out there was a letter missing in my email address fr that particular listing) and told me to add the email address to my account, which I did and he said I should have the payment within a couple of hours.
