Since I'm a glutton for punishment and I was curious if Paypal's customer service through email was any good I sent several more emails and kept getting told there was no reason for the review and that I should contact the buyer who had no idea since it was Paypal that was holding up the payment. Huge negative marks for Paypal contact through email. It's worthless, especially since you can't actually follow up with the customer service rep. I finally called Paypal and got someone to look at my account and they could find absolutely no reason for the hold at all. No notes, no nothing. She released the funds immediately. The transaction was for $8 so it was no sweat to test Paypal customer service. I give customer service email an F and phone email an A for speed of picking up my call and taking care of the problem. Overall I say no passing grade since there was no reason for the hold ever given not even one note.

Just updating that now it has been two weeks and the payment is still under review, I have yet to get an explanation from Paypal AND I've sold many items since this one and no reviews no holds no problems.

I had that same thing happen to me and it was because I edited the tracking number on EBay. On paypal it showed the original tracking number and cancelled. Like you I changed the status to shipped again and it went away. I think this is a glitch between EBay and Paypal if you edit the shipping details on EBay it doesn't get automatically edited on Paypal.

Absolutely 100% dead on. Is it really asking too much to expect an answer to a simple question like, "why is a payment being held for review?" But I guess it is. I've had no answer now going on week number two. Oh! I'm also a "Paypale Advantage" member. You know the "special" club of people that spend more money so they are supposed to get better customer service. The whole concept that someone gets better customer service because they spend more money is a total and complete joke and in my case A Big Lie! I think I'll go send another email...

I completed a transaction on EBay, got an email from Paypal saying payment was made, checked the site and confirmed, shipped the item and then later noticed on my account the payment is being hel for "review." I never received an email indicating the payment is being held or is under review as Paypal says they will do. My interaction with customer service has got me nowhere. I cannot get an explanation for the review nor why I did not get a notification of the hold or review. There is no reason I my end to hodl the payment, it is entirely an issue with the buyer and Paypal. I was actually told to email the buyer but they simply respond they made the payment and I can't open a dispute with EBay because they show a payment made. If Paypal would simply cancel the payment I would have recourse but as of right now Paypal is interfering with my transaction. This whole thing could have been avoided if Paypal would have informed me of the hold. My favorite part of my interaction with customer service is the bottom of the email where it is suggested I tell my friends about the service Paypal offers...belive me I will.

I have an auction payment on hold for review right now for like $8. I have a perfect feedback rating on EBay with over 400 transaction so I don't fall into the auto hold category and even still tracking is on this auction. The best part of this deal is Paypal says they will notify by email if a payment is on hold but they didn't so I shipped the item and then found out about the hold later. When I emailed customer service I didn't get an answer to why it was being held or why I didn't get an email about the hold just a form letter asking me to email back or call. How about answering the simple question.

I used to use the $7 Ebay shipping rewards voucher every month because it was only 1200 points but now the lowest Ebay voucher is 3800 for $25 and that used to only be 2500 points. I already have all these rewards choices with my other credit card rewards programs. Paypal just gets less and less unique and just gave me a reason to not use their card. Lame.

I hate to be a downer and I do hope you get the $5 but I wouldn't count on it. I remember over a year ago the "go paperless and get 1000 rewards points" campaign. I never saw the 1000 points and the customer service rep on the phone in India or wherever was of no help.

I called yesterday and they said access to our previous statements will be restored by the 17th of September. I checked today and it is but when you press on a previous statement you get the current one so it's not quite fixed yet. I bet they'll have it taken care of sure enough.

If you cancel the account yourself it will show up on your credit report as "cancelled by consumer" or something like that. That's not a negative. If it says that it was cancelled by the institution then it's bad.
