I am sorry this has happened and I can understand your concern.
It sounds like you may have inadvertently set up a billing agreement or subscription with this company and that is why the payment was taken.
You can check any subscriptions here: https://www.paypal.com/uk/smarthelp/article/how-do-i-cancel-an-automatic-payment-i-have-with-a-merchant-faq2058?app=searchAutoComplete. You can also cancel its from that link.
