When I am making a button I get an option to "Use settings saved in your PayPal profile"  When I am setting up a new shipping method I get an option to "Use the shipping fee in the transaction instead of my calculator's settings:" Are these different ways of saying and doing the same thing, or is their a difference between them?  Does one apply only to the item the button is for, and the other to any item shipped with that shipping method? Thanks! ... View more

Shipping/Shipping2 no longer working

I have some things on my site  that I charge shipping on, and others that I don't. I had trouble getting the shipping calculator not to charge shipping on the no-charge items, until someone here suggested adding shipping and shipping two to the buttom code, and setting them both at 0.00.   Worked fine until a couple of weeks ago when suddenly I was getting complaints about overcharges, and found that whever someone ordered the no-shipping-charge items they were getting charged for them even though the settings hadn't changed. And I can't find anything anywhere to explain where the charge is coming from.    Any ideas? ... View more

Key word search for old transaction (Mac)?

I often find myself searching for old transaction, often based on sketchily remembered information. Similar programs I have used in the past usually have a key word or wildcard search which will let me search the entire address for a  certain word without me knowing just where in the address it might appear. This is very useful with business names, which may not fit gracefully in the first name-last name format Paypal requires, or people's name when they come from a culture where they do not have the rigid distinction between first and last names we do.    Is there any way to do such a search of my Paypal account?      ... Thanks for the quoted material, I had not seen it. It's pretty much beyond me, but still usefull. .   I  cannot agree with your position that since Paypal is a business it has the absolute right to seek growth at the expense of me and my customers. Paypal promised when I signed up that customers would be able to  pay using a credit card without opening a PP account. I am paying PP for this service - they are not paying me to bring them new customers. Therefore my need to present my customers with a clear, unambiguous ordering and payment environment should take precedent over PPs desire to hustle up a few more accounts by deliberately obfuscating the payment process. Do you run a business? If you do, I would  expect you to understand this.  ... View more

PP forcing my customers to open PP accounts in ord...

PP has always had a unfortunate habit of trying to trick customers into opening a PP account in order to buy with a credit card. About once a week I have to lead lead someone through the procedure for buying without as  the PP labeling is (deliberately, one suspects) confusing.   Lately I have been getting more complaints, and a few screen shots showing that the screens my customers see are different from the ones I see if I do a trial order, and do indeed seem to refuse to allow them to buy with a CC unless they open an account. Several of my potential customers have refused to open an account, thus losing my a sale.   What is going on? It this intentional of the part of PayPay? Do I have any way around it? I choose PP for my payment engine precisely because it allowed customers to buy by CC without a PP account. If PP is changing the rules they should at least tell us business userss up front. ... Printing out shipping labels on non-Intel Macs?

I have been printing out 100's of international shipping labels for several years now with an Intel Mac, without any trouble. Now I have had to switch to an older G4 Mac and find that not only can I not print them out, but that this has been a recognized problem for years now!   Last discussion I can find on this issue was several years ago, does anyone know if a solution was ever found? Apparently PP did not put a very high priority on the problem, figuring doubtlessly that if they procrastinated for another ten years all the non-Intel Macs would retired.   Domestic shipping labels can be done, but it's a bit buggy - PP thinks it has printed the label when it hasn't, so  you have to pick REPRINT each time. ... "Secret" PP technical support MTS page?

by angryman Contributor in About Business (Archive)

I called up PP support the other day with a question, and the guy could not answer it and suggested a submit a ticket to the Technical Support dept/MTS page. I confessed I had no idea where to find such a thing, and he tried to tell me, but the first 2 ways didn't work - the links or buttons he told me to use just  weren't on the screen my computer was showing me. So he gave me the address to type in, www/paypal.com/mts and that got me there, and, with a little backtracking, to a form for submitting a ticket.   It seems to lead to a higher level of support that using the links on the PayPal Help links do. I was surprised that in all my looking for was to get  help from PP I had never come across this page or form before - it is not mentioned on the PP Help Page, or the CONTACT US page. Doing a search for TECHNICAL SUPPORT finds a lot of articles and posts, but won't take you to the page, nor will searching for MTS find anything.    So I am wondering. Am I just clueless, or is this some higher level support page they would prefer the unwashed did not use?         ... View more

You can save some misunderstandings down the road by making sure your biz is registered under the biz name, and stays that way.    I recently got a bill for $5000 from the IRS, for taxes on income that the IRS claimed I had not reported. It turned out they thought all my Paypal/business income was all personal income, and couldn't find it on my 1040. and assumed I had not reported it.    Since I was sure I'd put the account under the EIN, I was puzzled how this could happen. I got various explanations at different times from different Paypal people,  but the most logical was that I had properly listed the business with Paypal under my EIN, but they also had my personal SSN. We use several names for the main partnership and the several subsidiary businesses we have, and when the IRS saw that the business name we were using on Paypay didn't match the one on the EIN it automatically reverted (without informing us!) to using my SSN. This was quickly straightened up, once we figured out what had happened and got the names in order and the 1099 updated, but still an annoyance that could have been a major hassle if the IRS had been in a bad mood. ... "New" Mac won't print overseas shipping labels

The old Mac we have been using for doing Paypal shipping got killed by lightning and we are using a G5 desktop as a replacement. It prints domestic (US) shipping labels just fine, but when we try to do overseas labels the print box is empty except for a tiny red "X" in the upper left corner. The SELECT PRINTER, PRINT SAMPLE and PRINT buttons are all there, but do not work - hit one and nothing happens. Clicking on the red X doesn't do anything either.    Anyone got any idea what the trouble might be?  ... View more
