Re: Cannot print - Mac - new system

I had  a horrible time gettng our new intel Imac to print pages that were within other pages, like our shipping labels (the old G3 handled them just fine).   I fixed it by going to the printer manufacturers webpage and downloading the latest Mac drivers. Unfortunately I can't remember an of the details except that setup was very fussy and required among other things the printer and the computers IP addresses, and some other oddball settings   However I find now that there are some brand new drivers that don't have the fussy setup, so if I was starting from scratch I'd probably try them, however your printer may be a totally different setup. Still, the first place to look is the printer manufacturers website. ... View more

Searching for old transactions, again...

Is there any way to do a fairly loose search for an old transaction and not have to be so specific which category I want to search?   If I use Account>History>Find I get a very narrow list of criteria I can search for (for example, it wants either last name or first/last name. Since my foreign customers often have interchangeable first and last names, which they alternate, or order in the name of a business and use multiple emails,  it can be very hard to match the right search term with the right category in order  to do an effective search.    With my old shipping system I could just type in part of the name or  address and it would turn up any transaction regardless of where in the address the search term was to be found.   I find I am often reduced to going through the old transactions one after another looking for the one I want, so rarely can I get the search to work for me. ... I have a feeling I must be missing the obvious, but I will be damned if I can find a way to search the transactions in my account overview.     Can anyone tell me how? There's a search box at the top of the page, but it just searches the whole site. ... View more

Your PO person is misinformed. Since the customs info on the PP label is entered electronically, the PO can, in effect, make as many copies as it needs electronically, and doesn't need the nutty, tree-wasting 4 part label that you would need if you filled one in by hand  at the PO.    The thing is, the PO has a line for the PO worker to get straight answeres, so there is not excuse for them to be misinformed, or to put the burden of researching such things on the customer.  ... I can't find the last option you mention, settlement payments info. I have a choice of transferring maney manually, or taking a check. Is it possible they have discontinued automatic deposit, but grandfathered it for people like you who already have it? I found another post here about it, and it also contained menu choices that don't seem to be there anymore. ... View more

What is "Autosweep"? Does it really exist?

When I was deciding whether to go with Paypal, I was told I could set up my Website Payments acct to automatically transfer incoming money to my bank account, like any normal merchant acct does. Best I can recall it was done using something called "Autosweep". However, now that I have signed with PP, I am told there is no way to automatically tranfer funds.   If so seems like a major deficiency of Paypal, and just one more indication that PP is not an "industrial strength" solution.   I was just looking for Autosweep, and apart from one reference in the forum (telling how to turn it off) I cannot find a single reference to it anywhere in the PP help files and elsewhere. Is there really such a thing, and what does it do? ... View more

Accepting random amounts of money via PP Website P...

Every so often I find myself needing to accept a payment from a customer in an amount or item not on my shopping cart. For example they change their mind and want to upgrade to a better product, or it turns out some more postage is due.    Is there any easy way they can send me the amount via my website without me having to refund and recharge the entire order? I can think of a few kludges, but they would not make me look good.  Is there a "Send Money" button, for example, that would let the sender pick the amount, for one time (non subscription) payments?   ... No. However we have found its a good idea to tell your customers  very clearly that they don't have have a PP account at several places on your cart and website before they are handed over to the PP payments page since PP doesn't make it as clear. as would be nice. ... View more

The 4-copies plus plastic envelope method may be called for for regular envelopes mailed at the PO, but not necessarily for ones using Paypal labels. I suspect because they have encoded info on them so the package can just be swiped rather than yet another paper form removed and filed at each key point in its progress.   I have printed out many paper (that is to say, non-adhesive) overseas labels and they have never had to four copies either.   I suspect the reason for the no-ashesive rule is just lousy communications, and one hand not knowing what the other is doing. All my oaverseas priority go out with adhesive now. ... View more
