At  last with many thanks to EwanBrown967 on a post to my similar question. First of all Paypal contact service number in UK is <removed>. Web address is :- www.paypal.com/uk/smarthelp/contact-us. When you ring the number an automated voice will answer, wait until they ask what your phone number is and say "I don't know". Next question answer "close accopunt". This will put you through to an operator who will change your mobile to your new number. Then log into your paypal account as normal....if you see your old phone number, log out then back in. When your new number is active a 6 digit code will be sent to your phone. Insert code and you are then "authenticated". You now have control again of your account. It takes about 15mins. You may have to do this twice to authenticate your account. The operator stays on the phone with you until your account is activated.  I would like to thank Ewan for this WORKING SOLUTION to a lot of Paypal customers frustrations this year(me from Jan 7th onwards).....and of course Michael the operator who was polite ,friendly and totally professional in his customer approach. 10 out of 10 for him. A note about the PSD2 security feature....as people have said it is just another layer of security like your bank ....just protecting you against the fraudsters of the world....that seems to be a good idea to me.!! This smart help was just for the uk,, so please see if you have a slightly different web address for the country you are living in. GOOD LUCK everyone in updating and then authenticating your account. ... View more

INABILITY to "authenticate"Paypal account!!!!!!!

Hello everyone in the community. Still NO reply from Help centre. I can only get the good old "run around" and catch 22 situation....where computer says NO!!!! a lot. NOT having the account authenticated, means NO Ebay usage for sales items. You can use a credit/debit card to pay for items on Ebay. The PDS2 directive is just a security measure like your bank account ....they send a 6 digit text to your registered mobile phone....and you activate it then and there...simple  and another layer of security...I like that. I DONT like the fact that because I have changed my phone, I can no longer "authenticate" my account. Paypal has MY MONEY....and I am sure a lot of people have the same non logging into account problem. Wpould one of the moderators just give us the answer to what seems to be a simple error by Paypal. If I can log onto "Community" with my email and password, why cannot Paypal send me an email to my email address to actvate my account. In fact why don't they send everyone a generic email so we can ALL "authenticate" our accounts(obviously with a different 6 digit code for everyone) I am not great with computers, but have worked in customer services....and Paypal customer services are USELESS at the present time. Paypal UK user information as follows:- If you go onto Google the UK help line  is <removed> at 7pence a minute. I tried this but as no service agents currently available, and a longer waiting time envisaged, a computer came on the line and I hung up after 57seconds so it only cost me 7p!!!! We all need our accounts authorised PLEASE....so we can go on trading safely with an easy way for the worlds population to pay!!!! ... View more

I too have the same problem as you have. I cannot update my mobile number to my new phone. I cannot log into my account to "authenticate" it as my old number is now void. It is so frustrating for ALL of us. Paypal send a code to my old number....completely useless !!!! Where is the person I can speak to, so they can update my number then I will be able to authenticate my account and use it again. I would like to auction stuff on Ebay...but this is preventing me from doing this...as Paypal is an easy way for everyone to pay. So, thinking a little bit,(is that still allowed???) Ebay will LOSE money and so will Paypal.....it does seem a shame this will happen. I did read some other community comments and yes I think that once I have authenticated my account and sold all my junk on Ebay.....it will be time to close the account...and I will be sorry to do so. I have tried logging into Help. FAQ's, and complaints but "computer says ....NO....every time as I cannot authenticate my account. Does anyone know how I can resolve this please????? ... View more
