Hi. I sold an item via Facebook marketplace for which the buyer paid me $870 via PayPal. The buyer then coordinated a courier to pick the item up and even contacted me again a week later to make another purchase from me. About another week later, I get an email from PayPal stating that there is a problem with my account and that a buyer has claimed an authorized transaction with their financial institution and I have a negative balance of $870 minus the PayPal fees to resolve. I have Facebook messenger screenshots showing that the buyer contacted me, attempted to negotiate the price, affirmed that she sent me $870 via PayPal, and arranged for a courier to come pick up the item thus proving that the transaction was clearly not unauthorized. I responded to the PayPal claim by providing these screenshots and was told that the details would be forwarded to the buyer's bank and they'd have 75 days to respond (seriously, 75 days??). I've tried several times to get someone on the phone to help but haven't had much luck. I was able to contact a PayPal rep via message and was told that the buyer's bank withdrew the funds from my account ( why is this even allowed??) and that since the claim was raised through the bank, PayPal has no ability to work the claim and I should try contacting Facebook (seriously?). I have other payments pending that I cannot accept because I need access to the funds and accepting them with the negative balance will just apply them to the negative balance. This whole situation has left me with zero confidence in PayPal and it's starting to look like my best option is to just stop using my account altogether after being a fair and legitimate PayPal user since 2012. Any advice on how I can get this resolved?
