Paypal/Ebay Guidelines

Complete newbie here looking into selling via Ebay/paypal. I dont know where to look to find out the crucial things one should know before hand. If I sold my inventory and had no money available to ship items assuming the funds sent would cover the costs, clearly I would be **bleep**ED! I am looking for clearly defined policy that I can review prior to selling so I can be prepared to do so according to their terms.   can anyone point me in the right direction?

It is very easy to make sure you have money in your paypal account to cover shipping costs.  Once you register with paypal and verify your bank account......just add funds to your paypal account from your bank account.   THOSE type of funds do not get held.  They take 3-5 business days to complete.

Oh, one more thing.....when you sell on Ebay you will have to pick what type of shipping you will use and you will have to enter in the amount you are going to charge for shipping.  HINT:  Make sure you KNOW how much shipping will cost for each item  so you don't undercharge or way overcharge.

One last thing.....when I first started selling, I was very unsure about how to go about it......but, in my opinion, the way it is all laid out once you are registered/set up......it is all pretty self explanatory and laid out in an easy to follow fashion.   Good luck!

Get familiar with the local ebay forums as well - they're under the "Community button, top of almost every ebay page.

Priceless information from real, experienced sellers - they'll help you.

A tip - spend a few months studying ebay before you dive in - this is a new, more complicated ebay and you have a very short window of opportunity to get things right.

Thank you for the reply!  I have a fairly new account on Ebay (so new in fact that my first attempt at selling a laptop was flagged and pulled. they later offered to re-instate the listing but as the saying goes "once bitten, twice shy". I am very glad I had that experience from the onset as it prompted me to do some further research. While I don't like the idea of my money being held, I can accept it (and far easier now that I know going into it).  The only potential pitfall I see with my checking account is that I also frequently purchase items and I would rather my credit card was the default payment option. (this can be overcome at the payment screen by choosing a different payment option but, admitedly, I forsee occasional failure to change it with each purchase and this could create a nasty problem should I not have funds available in checking) I appreciate the input and I agree that things are pretty "ergonomic". I just have to shake the jitters and step into it.  I have a buyer feedback rating of 34 100% positive so far. Does this have any relevance where paypal is concerned with regard to selling? or is it likely I will have to build feedback as a seller to arrive at a somewhat stable/streamlined turnaround time receiving funds?  I will absolutely consult the forums on Ebay and I appreciate the tip.  I also appreciate that (as yet) I have not been given the flame-job one often receives as a new member on a forum when asking questions.   thanks again!

Well, I always recommend using a credit card to pay for purchases, even through Paypal - it's double coverage.

If you're selling a laptop, you're about to experience the wonderful world of scammers unless you establish a price and list the item under Fixed price and check off the "Immediate Payment required" box in the listing form.

This leaves the listing up until it's really paid for in paypal.

The scammers will email you and try to get you to sell it off ebay - decline.

MAKE SURE YOU BUY INSURANCE FOR IT AND ONLY SELL IN YOUR HOME COUNTRY.  USPS, for instance, does not have any delivery confirmation ( which you should always get) outside the US for any of its services.
