I received the following e-mail from eBay:
Problem is, none of it is working. I can't get into my eBay account, and for any kind of tech support to help deal with the issue, I have to log into my account.
I tried resetting my password, and that hasn't worked either.
Any ideas as to what I can do here?
Your eBay account has been temporarily locked because it looks like someone used it without your permission. Your email address may have also been tampered with so you might not have received any emails about the unauthorized transactions.
We went ahead and canceled those unauthorized transactions and credited the associated fees. We assure you that your credit card information has not been stolen because it's on a secure computer that can't be accessed by anyone.
To secure your account, here's what you need to do:
Step 1: Please change the password on your personal email account because if someone can get into your email, they may be able to access your eBay account.
Tips: Make sure the password for your email account is different from your eBay password. Also, be sure to create a password with a combination of letters and numbers, which makes it difficult for anyone else to guess. Step 2: Change your eBay password by following these steps: 1. Click the "Sign in" link at the top of the eBay home page. 2. Click the "I forgot my password" link. 3. Enter your user ID, and then click the "Continue" button. 4. Follow the instructions to change your password.
After signing in to your account with your new password, you may be asked to complete additional verification to prove you're the account owner.
Step 3: After you change your passwords, please change your secret question and answer by following these steps: 1. Click "My eBay" at the top of most eBay pages. You may have to sign in. 2. In the "My Account" section, click the "Personal Information" link on the left side of the page. 3. In the "Account Information" section, click the "Edit" link to the right of "Secret question." For your security, you need to enter your user ID and password again. 4. Fill in your information. 5. Click the "Change Secret Question" button.
Step 4: Verify the contact information on your account by following these steps: 1. Click "My eBay" at the top of most eBay pages. You may need to sign in. 2. In the "My Account" section, click the "Addresses" link on the left side of the page. 3. If you need to change anything, click the "Change" link to the right of your account information.
