HORRIBLE IDEA TO HOLD FUNDS FOR 21 DAYS!!!

Holding funds from sellers until the buyer leaves feedback is the worst idea EVER! Since when does Paypal become an authority on buyer satisfaction?? A smooth transaction is all that I wanted from Paypal. If they are going to hold funds, then they should make it very clear BEFORE you use them!  Keeping my money in their account for 21 days is a HUGE disadvantage of using Paypal. Stick to transferring funds, not trying to be a satisfaction authority!

Right after making my above post, I got an e-mail from eBay with my monthly invoice, which is a fourth of my current PayPal balance!  I just threw my hands up in the air and thought, "Now where in the heck is THAT money supposed to come from?"  If PayPal won't release the funds so I can pay my eBay bill, then will eBay cut off my ability to list items and make the money that PayPal keeps siphoning off for itself?  Kind of ironic, since eBay owns Paypal in the first place.  Oh, mercy, I give up, I just give up.  I think my odds of making any money would be better if I played the lottery.  As soon as I can find a job or another source of income, I can stop having to sell things to make money, and stop giving PayPal my business.

(P.S.  Yes, I've read the suggestions here that I accept alternate payment methods for my eBay sales.  But I am not a business set up to accept credit cards indepently.  And while I'll happily accept money orders and even personal checks, I don't list that in my auctions since it expressly violates eBay policy.  I have had an auction shut down in the past when I accidentally violated a listing policy, and I don't expect that this would be any different.  If a buyer contacts me and asks, I'll say yes, but I don't feel comfortable requesting it of the buyer.)

Hey, I see that a guy by the name of Tom Pergo just started a PayPal complaint page on facebook.  I think it is a good idea to get the word out past Ebay users!

Yeah, after blasting them and too went to the next email to find my invoice for $44.75 waiting. I wonder how long they will wait for my payment.

Those miserable (illegitimate children!) I really like to curse when I am this mad. Knowing that they will censure, I like to use Webster definitions in their place. This in no way is intended to offend anyone other than the target. My apologies to everyone but Ebay and Pay Pal.

I will of course send them a note that their funds are being held as part of my security audit ti insure THEY have no violated any of my policies. (Just for Fun)

I have been on hold now for over an hour, being passed back and forth between paypal and Ebay, hung up on, sent to ASIA and back again!

My DSR's got me on the hold, basically because I sell a high volume of records to old folks like me who don't understand DSR's or their significance, even if I include an insert, email, and warnings on my auction pages. I guarantee everything unconditionally, but still got dinged a few times in a few months.

I ship 100's of Lp's in a given week, and now Ebay has my money totally tied up in holds. I can't ship through paypal for international transactions because it would be twice the cost of the whole original transaction as they DON'T allow anything other than priority or express mail for international orders using paypal shipping. So I basically ship out of my own pocket for ALL international parcels and email them constantly regarding leaving feedback.

I've used all my saving up now and my house payment is a month late. I can't even ship the parcels I have here. My DSR's are great for this month but it will be another 15 days to wait till the next evaluation. This is the worst business i've ever dealt with. I wish I had another option. If there were another option to sell on line, there would be such a mass migration of sellers... it's SHAMEFUL!

Now I have my monthly invoice coming due... what now? Because of the lack of money I have had fewer auctions because I can't buy more stock. How many people have to be put out of business before they realize what they're doing?!?! How do they cook the books to make this look good?!?

I talk to paypal every day and the folks on there comiserate and tell me that this is all they do all day is absorb the irate words sprayed from all the sellers who are being ssqueezed out of business.

Just a follow up... I spent two and a half hours on the phone today, talking to friendly Asian folks who couldn't help me and was tossed back and forth for a while... finally got a "specialist" from paypal to help me file for an appeal for an early review... spent another half hour with him unlocking payments that had been delivered but were still being held in one of the several glitches the system has. I got a call about a half hour later from paypal, and they said that they were releasing the funds because in light of my time on Ebay and my lack of cases filed that my account was being restored to normal. Wether it stays that way, I don't know. The DSR system is the culprit behind the problems I am having. Most of my buyers are older folks that buy records and may or may not understand the DSR system. Sometimes I work a lot in a week and can only ship one day, so consequently my shipping isn't as fast as some retirees that have a lot of time on their hands... this was the reason I was put on "21 day hold status"...

It seems like the system is loosening up a little... and when in doubt, bug the **bleep** out of them on the phone line... I can't see how this policy can be doing them any good... I have read several very sad stories like mine on this page of poor folks that are truly suffering. I hope that someone is out there reading this and can do something about it. It's a terrible hardship to sellers that are trying to make an honest living.

This is the logic I was facing... my shipping DSR was .17% below the threshold that triggers the 21 day hold... so in order to induce me to ship faster, my funds were held for up to 21 days. This is a strange policy, because I had several packages in that horrible two month period that I COULD NOT SHIP for lack of funds... were it not for my regular customers, and my day and night emailing (with a link to this forum) for damage control, AND the good faith feedback left by several people I would be out of business now BECAUSE of this policy.  I run a high volume business and deal a lot with international buyers and in the case of Lp's the SHIPPING can account for on the AVERAGE 3/4 of the payment amount. This is a fantastic amount to come up with out-of-pocket. I simply couldn't do it, and I even still have one large package in my hall waiting for the funds that were unlocked today. Compounding the problem was the fact that many of the buyers choose to NOT LEAVE FEEDBACK, causing the money to be delayed a FULL 21 days. Many of them also DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH, so I have to translate when necessary. When I called Paypal to report these things they replied that "you can ship the items through paypal using the shipping label function and the money will come out of the held balance"... NOT TRUE... the shipping label function will only allow you to send a parcel PRIORITY INTERNATIONAL, or EXPRESS INTERNATIONAL!!!! In most cases that was 2-3 times the amount of the entire payment! AND, there is STILL no delivery confirmation!!! AAAAAAAAND the ICING on the CAKE was that in most instances that I used the paypal shipping labels, THEY DIDN'T PULL FUNDS FROM THE PAYPAL BALANCE, but INSTEAD PULLED THEM FROM MY EMPTY BANK ACCT, causing OVERDRAFTS!!! Every label represented a seperate transaction, AND a seperate overdraft from my bank ACCT... 2.95 was the average price, with a $20 overdraft charge. Multiply that times the 50 labels that I packed in that day... AND DO THE MATH!!! Last time I talked to them they were "working on that problem".  I still was able to work around all of this HORRID TWISTED POLICY though, and for that I feel like a war veteran. This was a F**ing horrible ordeal from a faceless, mindless, cruel entity that I will forever feel hostile toward.

If you don't pay your ebay bill, after so long they WILL shut you down from selling or buying on the ebay site until they get there money. BUT there is kinda a good stand point at this also when you think about it.

Now if they shut you down if you don't pay your bill, and sense they own paypal and paypal is holding your money anyways. Get ahold of ebay and tell them that when paypal release your money, you will then pay them. You see if folks does or can't sell on ebay, that will also hurt there business as well... then two birds will start to fall. You see there is another member on here Sureplusdude, He loves to stick up for paypal alot, he keeps telling people that doesn't like there funds being hold and when and if they don't like what paypal is doing  and they say they won't use paypal or ebay again, he tells them good luck or play by the rules. Well I been studying things about ebay and paypal and there policys. There is flaws and also weak points.. we do just what Sureplusdude has been telling us all along and play by the rules even though paypal isn't though. Here is the weak point, paypal works with ebay, ebay owns paypal. Well instead of fighting them, we just stand still with ebay. Now I know what your going to say, how in the heck will that work. Well here it is. Ebay makes money off of us sellers do they not? well seeing on how paypal came down with a bad case of the hold funds fever with ebay and is holding peoples funds from the ebay sales. Stop selling on ebay for awhile and go to another online place to sell and find another online place for reciving money through. What money you have in your paypal account, take out.. Keep your accounts down below your ebay bill dues. Now take and remove your banking info as well, take if you have a paypal debit card and go on ebay and put that in for your ebay billing dues. Now with paypal holding the funds and not release them, they have the money, now when ebay comes after you for your payment for your ebay selling.. they are kinda **bleep**ing them selfs now because your paypal account is drained and they can't **bleep** the funds from it because what money you do have in there paypal is holding and won't release it. Now when ebay comes to you. Tell them to go to paypal for the money as they are the ones indeed that has your money for your paying your selling dues on ebay.

Now if ebay sets out to get a collection agency, tell them your money for selling dues for ebay are indeed hold up with paypal as they will not release the funds to you because it's there rules (because with you not selling nothing on ebay, you have nothing to ship out and you  don't have to use paypal). And that when paypal wakes up and decided to release the funds then your ebay dues will get paid. You see, by doing this, you are following there rules. You stop selling on ebay, paypal isn't getting use or collecting funds to hold.

If you want to sell on ebay but yet still recive funds fast, go some place else that ebay accepts, but leave your billing stuff hook up to paypal at ebay. make sure all your billing stuff is hooked to paypal though but make sure your bank stuff isn't though. This way ebay and paypal are kinda at a criss cross with them selfs and yet you would be getting paid through another source. You see.. paypal and ebay wants to **bleep** us over with the hold funds policy well we can still use ebay and yet **bleep** them back.  We would be playing by there rules all along also and there policys you can say.

These are difficult times for most of us.  I strongly encourage that we help our fellow eBay Sellers who are struggling (I'm in the same boat) whenever we can.  I know that I always look for necessities on eBay before I shop elsewhere, both for a bargain and to support fellow eBay Sellers.  Let us all know your eBay seller ID and if we can help you by buying your items or referring business to you, we will.  --- Miami_Mommie

Miami_Mommie, that's a nice idea, helping each other.  I'm in the same situation, broke, waiting to get a job, having to sell my collectibles and other things to eat and catch up on past-due bills.  I'm needing all the sales I can get right now.  LOL  And, of course, I'll happily return the favor when I'm able.  I hate to give PayPal any more money than necessary at this point with their dreadful policies, but at the same time I can't cut off my only source of income.  Anyway, I'm using the same name here and on eBay:  mweimer
