HORRIBLE IDEA TO HOLD FUNDS FOR 21 DAYS!!!

Holding funds from sellers until the buyer leaves feedback is the worst idea EVER! Since when does Paypal become an authority on buyer satisfaction?? A smooth transaction is all that I wanted from Paypal. If they are going to hold funds, then they should make it very clear BEFORE you use them! Keeping my money in their account for 21 days is a HUGE disadvantage of using Paypal. Stick to transferring funds, not trying to be a satisfaction authority!

@bluntmanchronic wrote:Then get a job where they give you your money immediately
*insert sarcasm
Great response, Blunt.
Don't you wonder how many of the sellers who have outside jobs, too, get paid immediately (unless they are day laborers)and don't have to wait for payroll to process it and pay them the next week or in some cases two. Some jobs only get paid once a month. So, why do you think they think Paypal should pay up now, or I'm gonna tell my daddy. lol

bluntmanchronic I would LOVE to get a job! I have been unemployed for the past 15 months and this is my only income besides the paltry amount I get from unemployment, which BTW ends in a few months.
If you go to a brick and mortar store and buy something, the seller gets his/her money right away. I am selling items on ebay as many other sellers are doing, in a virtual store. I sold an item, I was paid for the item, I should have access to that money right away.
I have bills to pay as many others here do. I'm glad you seem to not have the same issue, but don't get sarcastic with us because we do want what we earned.

McDonalds is on constant hire status 😄
The store gets the funds in the till, yes, but does the cashier get his money right there NO! He waits a week or two to get paid for the work he did. Like many people I get paid bi-weekly, so every other week i am totally broke just waiting for my next check.
And I'm sorry but money gained through selling stuff on Ebay is not earned.

You're sooo funny! McDonalds pays less than my unemployment or I would work there.
Ok, you're not getting what I'm saying. Let's put it in the perspective of a garage sale. You put your items out and people buy them. You get the money right away, no waiting. You can then use it right away for what ever it is you need.
Ebay is a garage sale, paypal is my "cashier" for the garage sale. I should be able to turn to my cashier and say " We made $X.XX today, give it to me." No waiting, no paycheck to be deposited, just instant cash in hand.
And yes, I did earn it. My auctions don't magically appear, I did the work to set up the auction, take pictures, crop pictures, and describe the item, including any measurements. That is work. If I sell the item, that is my pay.
I'm sorry you don't see it that way, but selling on ebay is a job, it does take work and when I'm paid for an item, I should be able to use that money right away. Now paypal won't even let me use my money to print labels to send out these items even though their new policy says I can. How messed up is that?

If the policies are something that you don't agree with then quit using paypal. Not to mention you knew this could happen its in the user agreement, **bleep** its even in the agreement that paypal will make interest on your money and you have no right to that interest.
The number of people having their funds held at anytime is only a fraction of the paypal community, continue to do things right and take appropriate steps and your funds will be released...eventually......
On another note, that work you do could be time spent finding a job...even one at mcdonalds.

First off, when you use ebay you have no choice but to accept paypal for payments, there is no way around it, Ebay owns paypal and they now dictate how you will receive payments. You are not allowed to even suggest that you will take other forms of payment. You're stuck, period. And what's this about interest? I never said anything about interest...
I have done everything right. I send out packages right away with tracking. I touch base with my clients to make sure they're happy. I've had a couple of non paying bidders, but that is hardly my fault. Even in a full time job, the most you wait for your paycheck is 2 weeks (14 days) paypal is taking it farther than that.
Now if you can direct me to a auction site that buyers go to as much as ebay and also recommend a payment site that isn't paypal, I'd be happy to go there.
As for me finding a job smarta$$, I send out hundreds of resumes a week and sell on ebay in my downtime. I see a lot of job opportunities where they want you to have a bachelors degree to answer phones. I don't have a degree and can't afford to go to school to get one.
I'm so glad you don't have any financial issues and don't have to worry about paying your bills. You must also have a decent job. As I mentioned, working at McDonald's would pay me less than my unemployment. Are you suggesting that I struggle even more to pay my bills by taking less money?

Don't waste your keystrokes addressing a rude and ignorant insult! There are individuals on this site who appear to have been trained to resort to personal attacks when they don't make headway shutting up complaints with mindless platitudes about Paypal's right to rip you off, the "ease" with which you can get your hold released (for a nanosecond, after following some insanely time-consuming rigamarole each and every time you make a sale, etc.) Blah. Blah. If they pander enough to Paypal, they get to become "advisors," whatever that means, but you can be sure it means spouting the Paypal party line.
You are right to complain, you have a right to complain, and with any luck, when enough people underscore their displeasure by LEAVING PAYPAL, change will occur.
As for other selling venues, if you read through this forum, you will see people mentioning Craig's List and Etsy with some regularity. There are a number of payment processing venues identified as well, though each has pros and cons. The good thing about Craig's List and Etsy is that you are free to accept any kind of payment you desire.
SAY GOODBYE TO PAYPAL! And tell everyone you know WHY!!

Sure, at ETSY, all you have to do is wait for a couple of years to sell maybe a dozen items, maybe two dozen, but you do get your money if you use a merchant account. There are a few sellers on ETSY who have regular sales. Last year I sold the same amount of items on eBay that it has taken since 2006 to sell on ETSY. Yeah, tell them to go there, or better still to Craig's list where they have to know your address to come and see the item or you have to go and meet them, and that still does not take care of the Paypal payments being held. We are talking payment venue here not selling venue. For some reason Craig's list doesn't sell well with just pictures. They seem to want to see it in person. According to what I read that Sunshine said a while back, there is a hold until you get a positive feedback. I don't know about that since I don't care to sell there. But, you send them there. That is what a smart leader would do, you think??
You might get enough of the people, those easily swayed by empty words, upset enough to shut down the equivalent of one small retail shop, so don't give the credit to yourself if Paypal finds later they don't have to do this to as many as they are now.
How many times does Blunt, Red, etc. etc. have to repeat that this has been in the policies since the sellers here started selling for it to get through peoples' heads. It's nothing new. But, it is happening to you and that is all that matters. You and maybe a few million others. This is something you have to get over, accept and get on with your selling so you will have your holds released once Paypal sees you are fulfilling your part of the seller agreement. Sure it is going to take longer at first. Every job you have ever had, you were on probation for 90 days, right? I know I have not seen a job where that was not the case. And it is not 90 days of proof here that you can and will do the job if you have already been selling and sell now and are consistent in everything you do related to your being an eBay seller.
