HORRIBLE IDEA TO HOLD FUNDS FOR 21 DAYS!!!

Holding funds from sellers until the buyer leaves feedback is the worst idea EVER! Since when does Paypal become an authority on buyer satisfaction?? A smooth transaction is all that I wanted from Paypal. If they are going to hold funds, then they should make it very clear BEFORE you use them!  Keeping my money in their account for 21 days is a HUGE disadvantage of using Paypal. Stick to transferring funds, not trying to be a satisfaction authority!

I have been an eBay/Paypal member since 2002. I have 100% positive feedback on 95 transactions. I'm a photographer and have used eBay for procurement and sale of photography equipment since the beginning. I have ZERO disputes, ZERO chargebacks. There is nothing in my history that would suggest shady or unscrupulous behavior.

I have sought desperately for someone at Paypal to give me an acceptable answer as to why my funds are being held; not a verbatim regurge of the vague, blanket nonsense from the website. The responses I've received from CS include, having fewer than 100 feedback entries, selling in a high risk category, not selling often enough, but nothing that addresses my specific account history.

If I was new to eBay/Paypal, I would understand. If my transactions were often disputed, I would understand. It I went from selling paperclips to selling photography gear overnight, I would understand. However, I'm not a new user, have never had a bad transaction, and have always bought and sold in a "high risk" category.

Being told that I don't sell often enough to get immediate access to my money REALLY chaps me! I buy and sell for my own use as needed. Therefore my transactions are infrequent, but may occur in spurts as I update my equipment. I sell when it suits MY needs and not based on how often Paypal thinks I should sell.

eBay/Paypal has chosen not to treat us as individuals, counting the good with the bad. To them, we are all guilty 'till they decide we're innocent! I'm done being penalized for doing nothing wrong. Instead of identifying and dealing with wrongdoers directly, they enact policies that create an online police state!

I am all for security and support the need for reasonable and appropriate safeguards, but I HATE WHAT PAYPAL AND EBAY HAVE BECOME. This is no longer an open marketplace for the people, but an oppressive and overly restrictive behemoth.

I am done with eBay and Paypal. When my money clears I will be closing both of my accounts and recommending others do the same!

Amen, this is rediculous. I sold a canon lens, great feedback, no problems. Paypal must be using our money somehow, stocks, schemes?

You know, I'm staggered that this thread dates back to 2009 and, as far as I can tell, there has not been a single reply from Paypal to address our comments. PAYPAL DOESN'T CARE ABOUT WHAT WE THINK! They had the nerve to ask me to fill out a survey regarding my demand for my money to be released. They say, "As part of PayPal's commitment to excellence, I want to make sure I met your needs during our conversation." I'M ABOUT TO BLAST THEM!!!!!

I know that you all have read the latest policy changes that eBay will put into effect this month about the shipping charges.  eBay will not take a cut of the shipping charge to help the seller save money.  WHAT!?!  That's what it says.  They will now included the shipping charge in the amount of the winning bid when they calculate the final value fee.  That's suppose to help the seller save money.  Would someone please explain to me how that saves the seller money.  We are all going to have to raise the cost of our shipping to cover this new percentage calculation that they are underhandedly sneeking in on the seller.

I know you have all seen listings that are listed during the free listing specials where the seller can start a auction style listing at 99 cents for free.  Sellers are listing the auction with a 99 cent starting bid and charging the real amount they want for the piece in shipping.  I have seen this one seller that starts her auctions off at 99 cents and charges $39.95 for the shipping on an item that weighs no more than two ounces and she's getting it.  Buyers want the item and if it is in their price range they don't care if it is shipping or the final bid.  Well, eBay is about to stop that practice dead in its tracks.  They are going to charge a percentage of the shipping in their final value fee.  This is getting way out of hand and I have moved all of my stuff to Bonanza but I haven't sold a damned thing.  I have made 3 sales in the past 6 months.  I am just sick over the whole thing because I have invested money in merchandise and now I can't sell it.  The good news is that you can import into Bonanza from eBay very easily so I can list my new items in eBay when they have their specials, like they are in the middle of this month 50 free auction style listing starting at any price and hopefully that will bring some traffic to Bonanza because I am certainly going to put a link in my lising for the buyer to come and visit my booth on Bonanza.  The more people we can expose to Bonanza the more we won't have to deal with feebay.  Anyways, no one has been talking about this and I advise you check out the policy changes starting this month.

Good luck in all your auctions and sales.

Of course, they are using the money.  They wouldn't be stupid enough to let it just sit there, would they.  But any earnings that they make off that money that is being held in trust should go to the recipient of the money, not PayPal.  That money should be going into a trust fund and paid to the seller upon the release of such funds.  I am certain what they are doing is breaking some kind of anti-trust laws and regulations.

Quite frankly, I don't see how they have gotten away with it for so long.  20/20 or 60 minutes should have picked up on this a long time ago and investigated so maybe what they are doing is not immorale or unethical or illegal and that's how they are getting away with it.  Mike Wallace we need you.

It will come crashing down on them eventually but they will have made their millions in bonuses by then and will be sitting pretty in Mexico somewhere on the beach.  Since PayPal is not a bank or financial institution regulated by the FDIC they don't have to behave like a bank and because there are so few laws in effect regarding e-business that could be how they are getting away with it because with this many sellers barking about this topic you would have thought someone would have taken them to court.  There are a few law firms out there gathering victims for a class action suit but it is stalled and not much is being done.

And there motto is what ladies and gentlemen?

The world's most loved way to pay and get paid.  Yeah, if you work for PayPal they really love us.
