I have been trying to sort out a problem over PayPal Direct Debits at my bank, and thought I was on the way to having done so. I have also worked out why I am constantly being asked to verify myself and my browser, and this is down to Firefox browser updates having been very frequent recently (September 2022).
However, with my bank account as my preferred source of payment, when making a payment I was suddenly asked to connect to my mobile bank app, and select an account for some sort of verification by "Tink". I have NEVER seen this before, and was very concerned that I was hijacked to a place I didn't want to be, so I abandoned the transaction and paid for it another way.
There are a very few mentions here about this "Tink" routine and PayPal, and I don't think I've had any update from PayPal about it, or how it works, so it's not surprising that I am immediately suspicious about redirections by an app which wants to look at my bank details.
I would like some reassurance from PayPal that it is indeed bona fide, and I would also like to know what of my personal and banking data re held in the Tink system, if at all. It is absurd for PayPal users to be thrown into a potentially damaging and dubious situation, at a time when scams, fraud and the rest are rocketing upwards.
PS It would be preferable to link Paypal and bank account via this TINK thing at a time other than in the middle of a transaction i.e. in the same way way that any normal set-up is done before it's used for a transaction, rather than a surprise halfway through a transaction.
