I received a letter in the mail from a debt collection agency called ARL saying PayPal have tried to contact me and I owe $12000. I’ve checked my PayPal account and no money is owed nor do I have any fraudulent transactions. Googled ARL and they appear to be a legitimate debt collection agency. But there is no way I’ve spent $12000 on things, and I haven’t lost $12000 to fraud either. Weird. Any suggestions how to deal with this?

Welcome to the PayPal Community! I'm sorry to hear there's been some confusion over a recent collection letter you've received. I can certainly understand being concerned about an unrecognized balance like this. After a bit of research, I can confirm ARL is an outside agency PayPal refers balances to after a certain amount of time negative. If you don't recognize the balance, please reach out to our Customer Support teams for assistance.
Best wishes and good luck!
