refund an american express card?

how do we issue a refund to an american express??? we do not see the activity listed in our paypal account, and i cannot refund from the amex merchant services website. amex said to ask paypal but their customer service message did not answer the question. help!

If the payment is not showing in your paypal account then how can you refund something that you have not received?

it was received, but it only shows on the amex merchant services website, not the paypal website

I see you're looking to refund a payment. As @kernowlass mentioned, you can refund a payment which is reflecting in your activity page of your PayPal account. If you see the payment only in the amex merchant services website, you have to contact the amex merchant services support team to find a way to refund the payment or check with the sender to send the amount in another way.

thanks, i of course contacted AMEX prior to posting here and they said they CANNOT do the refund and paypal has to do it? i sent paypal a message and no answer. any ideas? thanks
