Friends and family not recieving full amount I send them?

Hiya,
I have recently moved from New Zealand to Canada. Before I moved over, I used Paypal to pay for a deposit on a room, as it was the easiest way to convert NZD to CAD. The transaction was using Friends and Family.

Recently I've set up a Canadian bank account, but haven't got enough money in it to pay my rent in a lump sum in each month. So I've used Paypal for the last three months to pay my rent, and will switch over once I have enough to pay straight out the bank account.

Here is my issue: When it comes to the currency conversion, I always convert how much I need to pay my rent - $800CAD. So Paypal converts my NZD to CAD, and I also pay the Paypal fee (around $30CAD). So from what I understand, my landlord should be receiving $800CAD, and as I am the one sending all the money and paying the transaction fee.

However, the last two times I've paid my rent, she has informed me that it has cost her $7CAD to relieve the money. So she's only received $793CAD, despite the fact I always put in that she will receive $800CAD when I begin the transaction.

I don't understand why my landlord isn't receiving the full amount I send her? All she's doing is receiving the money, I'm under the impression that since I'm the one sending it to her that I would be the one paying any additional charges?

This month, she said that Paypal kept $14CAD instead, so I now owe her even more money. Has Paypal had some giant price spike that I'm unaware of? It doesn't make sense for the receiver, especially through a friends and family transaction, to also pay charges? I don't understand why this is happening, and I'm giving my landlord the benefit of the doubt that Paypal is taking a cut of my money before I conclude that she's scamming me out of a few extra bucks lol

Paypal is country specific so if you move countries you have to close your old Paypal account and open a new Paypal account registered in the country where you now live. You would then need to add an address / phone number / bank accounts / cards from within that country.

You should really withdraw any funds / resolve issues / remove cards and bank accounts / cancel any subscriptions and close the old Paypal account before you move countries. If you don't then you may have problems doing so once you have moved and may need to contact customer services for help to resolve things.

As you are paying using a NZ paypal account then your recipient is probably paying cross border fees to receive the funds?

ah gotcha. So despite the fact Paypal is telling me she is receiving the full $800, this isn't actually true a little bit is withdrawn because of the cross border fee she has to pay to receive the funds. Was there also a recent hike up in the price of the cross border fee to explain why it suddenly jumped up from $7 to $14?
