why do the purchase amount and total differ?

I'm paying for Uber with PayPal and I see an entry in my PayPal transactions for Uber that says that the purchase amount was $15.91 and the total billed to me was $16.52. The payment method for the PayPal payments was a credit card.

Why the difference?

Superficially I might think that PayPal was adding x% for credit card transactions but that doesn't seem to be the case because not all Uber charges on my PayPal account using the CC as as the payment method have such a difference. Like there's a $56.99 charge from Uber that has these two amounts matching.

So what's up with this?

Hello @yawnmoth

Thanks for joining the Community!

I'm sorry to hear there was a discrepancy with your transaction. If you click on the transaction within your PayPal Activity, you'll be able to review a breakdown to determine if any additional fees were charged. You may also find downloading a transaction statement useful. For assistance investigating this matter, you can contact Customer Support by clicking 'Contact' at the bottom of any PayPal page. Support is also available if you send a DM to @AskPayPal on Twitter or a PM to facebook.com/PayPal.

I hope this helps!
