i need help trying to recover some money i sent to a inactive account

i accidentally sent money to an inactive account and its just sitting there how can i get my money back

If the account was inactive then the payment on your side would show as unclaimed or pending and time out 30 days post sending as it could not complelte.

If you need more advice you would need to say how you sent the funds / funded the paypal payment / and what it says under the transaction on your paypal account.

it just says that i sent 200$ to his account but he said the accout was closed a long time ago so i gave him cash

If the account was closed the money would not show as SENT, however as  you haven't given the further information I requested in my above post then can't really advise further.

sent it friends and family and from pay pal balance

As I said if its showing as SENT then it has successfully transferred to the email address you sent it to that is linked to an open paypal account.

If it had not completed then it would show as unclaimed.

Sadly it appears that the person that received the funds may be being less than honest in admitting that they have the funds.

If they can't access their account then they could ask customer services to help them log on as the account is still active.

As it was a friends/family payment then you have 0 buyer protection and unless the receiver voluntarily refunds then not a lot you can do about it unfortunately. You could try reaching out to customer services and asking them to request a refund from the recipient but as you sent a gift payment then they cannot force them to do so.
