Hi! So I’d like to know why is a transaction to one of my friends on hold for a week? Is there something I can do about this so it can arrive sooner? Can I just cancel the transaction?

There are times however when its you and the seller / recipient that take the wait for the echeque to clear and here are some of the reasons...

1. Back up card has expired or needs updating.
2. You have had a recent negative balance or failed bank transfer (so paypal are not going to credit the seller in advance in case it happens again).
3. For some high cost riskier payments / transactions.
4. Friends / family payments *funded from a bank account* as this option is free then its you that takes the wait this time.
5. Clearing a negative balance.

Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

Hi @JerielysGarcia

Welcome to the PayPal Community Forum.

It sounds like this payment was sent as a goods & services payment and this was placed on hold for the seller to ensure you as the buyer receive your item or service.

If there aren’t any issues with this transaction or account, the payment will typically be available to the seller within 21 days after receipt.

To get payments released sooner, the seller needs to use trackable delivery with any of our approved delivery companies and enter the tracking details on your Activities page.

You as the buyer can confirm you have received the item/service, the payment will then be released immediately. Steps on how you can confirm receipt can be found here: How do I confirm receipt of an item? Please try this using the PayPal Website rather than the App. However, this option is not guaranteed to always be available.

For more information on payment holds, you can send this to the recipient/seller: How can I release my payment(s) on hold?

I hope this helps clarify the situation.
