Where did my preauthorized money go (2022)?

Hi guys,

I've got a problem, where did my preauthorized money go? On 15 September 2022, I was trying to pay my Digitalocean invoice. I have made two payments. The first transaction has failed, but PayPal deducts money from my card and sends a notification:

"Preauthorisation ₹ 469.66 INR
On 15 September 2022, ₹ 469.66 INR was preauthorised for a purchase on your card xx-XXXX. If it isn’t completed or it’s completed for a different amount, any pending amounts will drop off, usually within a day."

So I could not complete my first transaction. Then I tried a second time with a different amount and this time it was successful.
But my question is where is the money for my first failed transaction? After a few days, the above notification went away but I still did not get my money back.

Even after 30 days, I still haven't got my money back... ☹️

Welcome back to the PayPal Community! I'm sorry to hear you've run into some issues with a preauthorization on your card. I would recommend first reaching out to your funding source to inquire about the transaction. Normally your bank or card company has the most complete information in situations like this. If they're unable to assist further, you can reach our Customer Support by clicking "Contact" at the bottom of any PayPal page.
