I understand you'd like to learn more about refunds, and I'm sorry for the confusion. When you first receive a refund from a merchant, the money is deposited into your PayPal account. This can show as +$10.00 in your balance. If you used a bank or credit card to make the initial payment, we'd then immediately transfer the money back to your payment method. This can make your balance look a little confusing because when the money is transferred, it will show as a withdrawal. That's most likely why you see -$10.00.
