What does it mean if a customer cancels a billing agreement?

Hello,
I keep getting occasional emails from Paypal saying that << customer XYZ has canceled the following billing agreement with you. Billing agreement ID:B-2UX7************>>
Can anyone tell me what this actually means? I don't understand what "billing agreement" they are talking about and if there's anything I need to do.
