Sent money to a closed email address.

I just want to verify that if I sent money to a friend, but used an old unused email address, I can not get that refunded by PayPal? It's not fraud, or stolen card etc. My friend just says they aren't using that email anymore.

What does it say next to the transaction in your paypal account?

Then the funds have successfully transferred to an active and open paypal account linked to the email address you sent it to.

Your friend needs to contact customer services to help transfer the funds or access her account.

Thanks, I am now informed they did that and were able to get back into their account.
