Repeat the transaction?

Hi all

I gave someone a loan of a small amount of money recently which they say they've sent back to me via paypal. Theres nothing in my paypal account which I found odd considering when I sent the loan they said it appeared in their paypal more or less straight away. When I questioned them on when they sent the loan they have text me a screenshot of their reciept which says:

"4th April - The money transfer was on hold. Contact the sender to repeat the transaction and we will refund the first payment and we will automatically notify the senders bank".

Now, I'm not used to sending money to people this way and always just use paypal for online store purchases, ebay, etsy and stuff like that so have never encountered a message like that myself. It does strike me as extremely suspicious in that its asking me to repeat the transaction (send the loan amount again?) and paypal will refund in then contact my bank?

Hello @Valtain,

Thank you for your post and welcome to our Community Help Forum!

I understand your concern about receiving money. When someone sends you money, you will be notified via email so you can claim that money. If you already have a PayPal account and have confirmed your email address, the amount will be credited to your PayPal account. If you still do not receive the money, I'd recommend reaching out to our Customer Support by clicking on the contact option at the bottom of the page on our website.

If the funds are held on your PayPal account, you should be able to view the transaction on the activity page. Please check these help center articles Why is my payment on hold or unavailable and How can I release my payment on hold. If you do not see the transaction, it is possible that the sender is trying to scam you. To confirm if you have received the payment or not, you can contact our customer support team through the available contact options on our website. Support is also available through Facebook private messages or Twitter direct messages. Unfortunately, we won't be able to discuss any account related information on this platform. Your understanding is much appreciated!

I hope this helps,

Ayesha
