I refunded a game from steam and the refund went to my old closed Paypal account, steam support says that the refund was accepted by Paypal and they can't help me recover my funds or even give me steam wallet balance. How can paypal accept a refund to a closed account and how can I get my money back?

If you funded the original Paypal payment to the seller from your bank account or a card then once marked refunded/completed it will automatically go back to that bank account or card.
Normally it can take a few days up to a week to go back to a bank account and a bit longer for a card, Paypal say allow 30 days for a card (1 billing cycle) but its rarely that long.
(Can vary according to country though).

It would still auto complete back to your card so you would need to sort it out with your card issuer to see if they can recover it for you.

I'm in the same boat, Ticketmaster refunded a ticket to a closed paypal account which was linked to a now closed creditcard. And I cannot for the life of me find anyone who can help me, everything is closed in that account, can't speak to support, chat is a bot, getting nowhere! Is your issue resolved? Any tips?

Hi, @pearlycrowns. In the situation you described, a refund would be returned to the card issuer, and they should be able to direct the money to any other card account  you have with them. However, if the refund was rejected and returned to a closed PayPal account, you will need to work with Customer Service to have the money transferred to a new PayPal account that you can log on to.

To see options to communicate securely with Customer Service, please log on to your current PayPal account or create a new PayPal account, if needed, click Contact at the bottom of any page and then select the topic that best fits your concern. Please work through all of the links/prompts offered by the bot in order to see all of the possible options for secure communication.

If needed, you may contact PayPal via Facebook Private Message (send a PM via https://www.facebook.com/paypal) or by sending a Twitter DM to @AskPayPal.

I hope this is helpful. Thanks for your patience during this time.

Sincerely,

Michael
