Receipient unable to access funds after 21 days - why?

Hi everyone,

I sent $568.76CAD to a friend in Canada (from an Ireland-based EUR account) on 24th September 2022. He was unable to access the payment, which I stupidly sent as a transactional payment instead of a friend and family payment, being told that he can only access the funds after 21 days.

15th October was 21 days after the initial payment was made, and from what I understand, he is still unable to access the payment I sent him. Does anyone know how to remove this restriction? It's getting really frustrating!

Hi @lastravaganza,

Thank you for your post!

I am sorry to hear a payment you sent has been placed on hold. I know this can be frustrating. Funds can be held for various reasons, for example if your friend is new to receiving payments with us.

If there is no issue with the payment, the funds would be released within 21 days. Typically, they are released at the end of the 21st day.

If the payment has still not been released, please advise your friend to contact our Customer Support. To contact us, simply click here. Alternatively, they can contact us via Facebook https://www.facebook.com/PayPal or Twitter @AskPayPal.

I hope this helps!

Hi Rachel,

Thank you for your response. It turns out that the recipient submitted a copy of his insurance (not sure which) to prove it is him, and it didn't seem to work. He hopes submitting a copy of his driving licence will work.

It's been almost a month since the funds were sent and still unable to access so I really hope this gets resolved soon!
