Incorrect practice on someone else's part cost me $374.24 AUD. Can I get it back?

I paid €3240 (converted from AUD, my currency) for a musical instrument overseas through the platform Reverb. The seller changed their mind and refunded my order after I had already paid, providing an incorrect reason for the refund (all of which is a Reverb TOS violation). When I received my refund, PayPal's specific exchange rate (which was different from Reverb's at the same time) converted the Euros to an amount totalling a gigantic $374.24 AUD less than what I paid for the item. I understand the Reverb situation is not the fault of PayPal itself, but is there any way I can nicely get that money back? This situation was entirely out of my control and happened due to another person not using the platform correctly.

You can ask but PayPal’s policy is below and you do run the risk of getting a less money back on the refund:

Refunds
Generally, we'll process refunds of:
- online purchases and friends and family transactions to the same payment method you used for the purchase; and
- in-store purchases to your PayPal balance.
If a payment you sent involved a currency conversion and you're later refunded:
- Within 1 day of the date of the original payment, we'll normally use the transaction exchange rate that we applied at the time of the original payment;
- Beyond 1 day of the date of the original payment, we'll normally use the transaction exchange rate (including a currency conversion fee) that applies on the date of your refund;
- The refund will go back to your bank account or card used for the original transaction in the currency of the original transaction. If that is not possible, we will credit your PayPal balance in the currency of the original transaction; and
- You'll be refunded in Australian Dollars if your PayPal account balance doesn't support the currency of the original payment.
