How do I get money back for a cancelled transaction and tell PP that this is not a business account?

My daughter owed us money for some products we bought to help her finish a room in her apartment and because of how she worded the payment when she tried to pay us back, Paypal is insisting my account is for business, which it is not. I immediately refunded the money she sent, but Paypal took the dollars out of my personal bank account instead of just giving her back the $500 she sent me. They are saying they need my tax info because this is a business account. It should have been a simple refund, there was no reason for Paypal to take money from my personal back account. Currently I am out $500 and my daughter has not received her refund, for a total of $1,000. Help!

Call customer services.

If the refund came out of your bank account (as eCheck), please allow several days for the issued refund to complete. The refund status should be “Pending” on your daughter’s account, at the moment.

It seems as if the $500 your daughter sent is on hold due to an account limitation requesting SSN/tax ID and/or the payment itself was subject to 21-day funds availability hold. Review email notification and transaction/account alerts carefully.

Provide SSN/tax ID as requested and await for PayPal to release the funds after 21 days. PayPal is required by law to collect tax ID once payment is received. Canceling/refunding won’t change that.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂
