Am I covered for Facebook Marketplace transaction?

Hi. Looking for some advice. I'd like to buy an item on Facebook Marketplace but I live in Belfast and the seller is on Sheffield. It's an expensive item (£450) and the seller has offered to courier it. She wants payment through PayPal and has advised that she can send an invoice and PayPal won't release the funds until I mark the goods as received. Is this correct? If she doesn't send the item, would I get the funds back? Thank you!

It’s not an absolute given that the funds will be on hold. It depends on whether the recipient has built up a good track record with PayPal for the funds to be instantly available or not. PayPal is not an escrow service. Nevertheless, you’ll have 180 days from date of payment to report a problem and request a refund. You’ll see the “Report a Problem” link the transaction details.

Should the funds be on hold, by default, funds will be held for 21 days. You can confirm receipt if object arrives within 21 days after seller provides tracking info in the transaction.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

Thanks so much @sharpiemarker. So either way, could I be confident that I would get my money back if the item didn't arrive? I know that Facebook Marketplace Buyer Protection would not cover me for a peer to peer transaction through PayPal so I'd want to be sure that PayPal covers Facebook Marketplace.

That depends on many factors all listed in Paypals buyer protection policy for you to read so you can risk assess your transactions.
Legal (bottom right of Paypals pages) > user agreement > buyer protection.
