hi

i'm wondering why the last few times i have used paypal using my bank account as the funding source the payments have not gone through immediately even though i have a credit card as a backup funding source. this is the way my account has always been and i have not changed or altered anything. it used to be my payments would go through immediately and then they stopped doing so out of the blue.

why???? and what can i do to get back to the immediate payments?

thanks!

This isn't helping.

You ask that we have back cards. i have a backup card. It is NOT about to expire. But still no instant transfer. Just dead links. Useless

Dear PayPal_Olivia,

The posts I see here mirror my own experience: I have a credit card (exp. date in 2013!) linked to my account in addition to my checking account, have had a PayPal account for over 6 years (never any trouble), have excellent credit scores, yet - no instant payment option for me. Man Sad Upon calling (and patiently waiting on the phone for 20 minutes) the only response I received is what the other posters already describe -there's nothing wrong with my account but the mysterious security system made the decision and no earthling must know why.

If you actually have an explanation I would be delighted to read it, otherwise it would be nice to hear some form of acknowledgement that it's not the users in this case who don't make sense.

Hi everyone,

For those of you who have checked the expiration date and confirmed that the cards are not about to expire, the answer is likely that the transaction evaluation is limiting what funding sources are usable for the transaction, as explained earlier in this thread. I realize this presents a frustrating situation, that you'd like to use a specific funding source and it is not allowed as a funding option for that transaction, and I wish there were an easy answer.

I have had the same Bank account attached to my account. My Credit Card was about to expire so what does Paypal do? Switch things so I either have e-check from the account or payment fro m credit card. I do not like paying from my card. I have made many transactions paying through paypal, some with 3 figure dollar amounts with no trouble, until recently. This is just another reason to shop locally or elsewhere online.

Mike, I couldn't agree more.  Less than happy that after 6 or 7 years with both a good credit card AND ample checking account, PayPal saw fit to A) change my payment default to my credit card (I almost always use my bank account) and B) when I do switch the payment from credit card to bank account, there's no more instant transfer; instead, I get this idiot e-check they are using.  My credit card was coming up in January  for renewal as well, but I changed the information well ahead of time.  Besides, if my CREDIT CARD is getting too close to expiration or renewal and you are so worried about it, PayPal, then WHY would you **bleep** with my BANK ACCOUNT which is what is going to pay you cash immediately???   OHHHHHH, wait a minute.  I get it.  Because you would really like it if people started accidently started hitting the "Pay Later" option and then they forget about it, and then you bang'em with late fees.  Sneaky.  I agree with Mike.  I'll be doing a LOT less shopping on here from now on.  Looks like I'll be going with Amazon or other online retailers; if I have to use my credit card anyway, at least I don't have to worry about being gypped in the process.

Same thing happening to me.... seems logical if you think about it..... most credit/debit cards have a daily limit..... PP gives you some security algorithm mumbo-jumbo excuse.... sorry nothing we can do..... but use e-check.... takes 10 days.....  TEN DAYS WE GET TO HOLD ON TO THE MONEY!!!!!  the return on just 5-10 days worth of holding all that money has to be HUGE...... c'mon like 90% of Ebay purchases...... they just doubled or tripled their profit....... EASY

Thanks Olivia, but in my time on here, I've spent anywhere from a few dollars up to several hundred dollars on any one transaction, and I've never . . . EVER . . . seen the eCheck option for any of my purchases.  I pay cash.  Immediately.  Most of the time within minutes of the auction end.  My seller gets paid quickly and my item is on its way that much faster.  Now, with this goofy eCheck shenanigans, if I want to pay for it with my bank account, I'm going to be penalized several days until it "clears" ???  Who's kidding who here?  My last transaction - my ONLY transaction with eCheck -  I paid right away, my bank did not get the payment request until the next day from PayPay.  They paid IMMEDIATELY (same as when I do an Instant Transfer) and yet PayPal did not pay the seller until 3 days after the transaction???  Is PayPal that desperate for funds that they are resorting to using 2 or 3 days "float interest" to pad their coffers???  Cheap. Cheap. Cheap.

Olivia,

First of all, I appreciate that you engage in this discussion since you obviously need to defend your company and explain things the best you can without exposing your bosses.

If someone has bad credit, a bad history with your business or any other UNDERSTANDABLE disadvantage for your business, by all means, protect your own interests. But if you randomly force good customers to wait for their money longer than is reasonable, why shouldn’t we conclude what Card-Sharp is describing? If a company can’t give me CLEAR instructions on how to abide by THEIR rules, do you expect me to just take it and believe it can’t be helped? You have cornered the market right now and you’re using that position. I liked PayPal because of the good idea initially but this issue is really irritating. I think your customers aren’t stupid enough to find this acceptable and not switch at the first opportunity they have.

I have read ALL these posts on here about the instant transfer trying to find out WHY I can no longer do them. I have been able to do it since day 1 on my account and when I had a card that was going to expire, I added 2 others to the account. Now I have one that expires in 2013 and one that expires in Oct. 2011. These are in addition to the bank account that I have attached as well. I am not trying to transfer to other people or other sites.... I am trying to transfer to MY Student Accounts under my Main account! This is my paypal to my daughter's paypal. And it says she has to wait 3-5 days to get the money... What's the point in giving her a student account if she has to wait almost a week to get gas money....?

Hi, I am having this problem now. My linked credit card has expiration date of 4/11, which is a week away. However, when I called my credit card company to find out why I haven't gotten a new card, I was told that my card is good through the end of April rather than expiring on 4/1/11 and that they will be sending me a new card closer to the end of April.  So, without another credit card I'm stuck with payments that will take 3-5 days to clear. Smiley Sad  Wish that paypal wouldn't be so aggressive about this.
