How would I know I'm sending money to the intended person?

I'm a consumer wanting to import goods from China. I have been liaising with this supplier through emails and am happy with the quotations. She gave me an email to make payment through paypal (therefore not through a store), but when I tried to send money the name of the account is not the name of the business, but an individual instead. Alternatively, she also send me an invoice through paypal for "Goods" requesting me to pay a certain amount.

How can I be sure I am paying to the intended person (the business) & not to the personal account of that staff? Even though the company is a verified seller by Alibaba, I would hate for my money to be cheated by the staff into her personal account. And if so, would I be protected by Paypal? Greatly appreciate anyone who can help.

Hi aliciatanxt,

Welcome to the PayPal Community Forum!

I would like to put your mind at ease, when you make a payment for goods and services you are covered by PayPal Buyer Protection. Here is more details: https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/paypal-safety-and-security

It's also good to ask for an invoice with purchase details included or to include these details in the message to the seller at the moment of making the transaction. There is always a memo option available.

I absolutely understand why you prefer to send funds to a Business Account as you are cooperating with a business and not an individual person. In this situation I would enquiry about the reason why you have been provided with Personal Account details and not the business ones. It's always good to ask for more details before initiating business cooperation.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Wish you many successful transactions with PayPal 🙂
