Let me start off by saying I am generally alert and can smell scams but somehow this one flew right passed me. I advertised an item on OLX in South Africa. This message was sent to me: "I'm so much interested in your package and i will like to purchase it for my Cousin in West Africa as Gift and i'll be paying R2,000+1,300 including the shipping fee via Dhl Express Mail....Kindly get back to me with your PayPal Email address so i can make the Payment asap....Thanks...". I received two e-mails from PayPal indicating the goods and courier was paid for. I phoned DHL and paid them R1, 200.00 to ship the goods to:
Here Is The Shipping Address Below:
Name:Santos Romero
Street:14,naiyeju street,Off baba ikale
City:Igando,Alimosho
State:Lagos
Country:Nigeria
Zip code:23401
Phone Number:2347038468884
I sent "Paypal" the tracking number and received an e-mail back to say the funds have been transfered but is on hold until Monday as they are upgrading their server over the weekend. I then looked at the e-mail and saw it had been sent via YAHOO. I then googled and found out that PayPal pays immediately and no funds ever get frozen. Needless to say I have contacted DHL and got my package back before it left the country. The "buyer" is still awaiting her parcel. I will wait until Wednesday and ask her if she received everything in good order. I almost lost alot of money. But every little mistake makes me more vigilant.

Glad you were not scammed, just to remind everyone >>>
THIS IS A TYPICAL PAYPAL SCAM.
They encourage you to use paypal and often ask you to send the item as a gift to a relative somewhere often Nigeria.
You will get/got a "fake" email that looks as though it is from paypal.....it isn't.
It will say the buyer has paid ...you won't have been paid.
They will tell you that the payment is released when you provide paypal with a tracking/shipping number......this won't happen.
If the item requires shipping they will tell you that they will pay you extra and you must pay the agent via western union / moneygram BEFORE the funds are released to you.
They are not interested in the item, they just want the western union etc funds and you will never see money in your paypal balance.
They also threaten legal action...have a laugh at that one and ignore it as its rubbish.
Paypal NEVER tell you to send trackable, they advise it for seller protection etc but it is not compulsory.
Paypal NEVER tell you to send an item before the payment is showing in your paypal account.
Delete any emails and ignore the scammers.

Hi,
I done a search of google and arrived at this page. Is the email address in the subject the scammer? I ask this as I had a suspicious friend request on facebook asking to email her with the email address in the subject.

The email address is what was used by the scam artist, I presume it was a gentleman at the tone used in the emails. I have lost nothing and hopefully spreading the word will assist others to be more vigilant.

Yes, this is exactly how this person approached me. By telling me she had a message for me from God 🙂 and that she had terminal cancer. Thanks for letting me know.
