It says in the 'learn 'more' section of this product: 'Buyers don't even need a PayPal account' but when I create the button and click to test it takes me to a PayPal login. Can someone explain please.

It should also show a form on the left hand side that allows people without an account to provide their details and card details to make payment. Are you seeing that form or not?

If not, then log in to your paypal account, goto profile and click website payment preferences under hosted payment prefernces. Scroll half way down till you see the payment account optional and click yes and click save. This should fix the problem then.

Clicking on Profile I don't see 'hosted payment preferences', I can only see:

My details

My money

My account settings

and under

My selling preferences I see only:

eBay ID

Selling online

Postage information

More selling preferences: PayPal button language encoding

Do I need to upgrade my account or something?

Well i don't know for sure, but am guessing you would need a business account to accept payments via a website. Is your account a business account or a standard paypal account?

I have a business account and hosted payment preference and a lot more options, including the ones you mentioned are available to me. Though the VAT activation doesn't currently add VAT to the shopping cart page or check out process (failure of PayPals systems as it should be adding VAT) when customers process their purchase and send payment, so i would suggest including any VAT (20% current rate) on to the prices shown on your website.
