I thought postage costs were meant to be cheaper through Paypal

Hi all.
I have read people saying for example "as Paypal postage is down, I had to go to the ost office and paid £18 for delivery when it would have only cost £11.99 through Paypal".
I have just checked on my account to print one for a 1st class large letter and it charges £1.09 which is the same as the Post office.
What's the point using my paper, toner, electric and time on printing them off if there's nothing in it for us?
Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance.

Hi chesterflaps,
PayPal Postage is used to purchase Royal Mail and Parcelforce labels. The benefits of PayPal postage include:
- Spend less time on postage paperwork.
- Manage all of your eBay and PayPal shipments in one place.
- Prepare several packages to send at the same time.
- Track eBay items on packages that you post through PayPal and eBay.
- Customise and print packaging slips to enclose with your shipments.
- Send to nearly every location in the world.
As this is done in conjunction with Royal Mail, the rates and associated costs are decided by them.
Hope this helps,
Maria
