Collection only item - buyer sends someone else to collect

Dear Paypal,

I sold an item on ebay as 'collection only in person' item as it was a delicate item and I don't have the original box with all the packaging, which is stated in ebay advert. A buyer then asked if he sent someone else to pick up as he can't. Person arrives to pick up, I give them strict instructions on how it should be transport, I pack it to my best ability, buying bubble wrap, finding a box to protect it and bubble wrapping it. In transit back to the buyer, the person who has picked it up, breaks it. Now the buyer wants me to refund him as he claims I didn't pack it properly!!! It was collection only in person, I gave it to his person as descrbed and he breaks it!!! Can he force me to give him a refund????? Im very stressed.

Why would you accept paypal for a collect item???????

Even ebay allows you to put cash only for items that are listed to be collected only.

Then you could have had instant cash in hand and no paypal fees when the buyer collected and there would have been no way they would have got a refund.

As it is there is no seller protection for items that are collected so if he files a dispute he may win. He could file non receipt of item and as you won't have a tracking number to prove delivery he would probably get a refund.

He has the item (seen picture of broken item) and he had already paid by paypal when he asked if he could send someone else to collect it. I should of cancelled payment and asked for bank transfer or cash instead but didnt expect them to break it in transit!!!!
