My husband found out that the Sam Ash Music stores were closing and saw an ad on Facebook to buy equipment at highly discounted prices. It took him to a website with the Sam Ash logo and he ordered 2 guitars. It went through PayPal but when the charge came up, it was from a scammer in China. I called PayPal to let them know not to pay it, but I was told that because it was pending, I would have to wait 7 days and call back. WHAT! I'm letting them know that numerous people are buying from the fake site but they won't do anything about it now??
Buyers beware. Do not go to a Sam Ash site from Facebook - it a scam!

I think PP may be off the hook on this one, assuming they get back your money.
But FB!!!! This is a SPONSORED ad and I've set spam filters on it, complained to FB, etc etc and it still continues to show up.They need to get their act together.

To resolve this, go to PayPal to the purchase. Click on report a problem. Answer the questions. Describe the scam in the description. Click on through and they will refund (3-5 days) and close the case. It was really that simple. This is a very short description of the process, but it is easy and intuitive.

PayPal refunded ALL my money, so they are on the job. Looks like at long last that FB has stopped teh ads, or the scammers have moved on to something new.

I saw the same ad. The old adage holds true. "If it seems too good to be true, it is". You just are not going to get a $600 guitar for $89. Sadly, there are so many of these scams nowadays. Primarily from China, and its almost impossible to trace it back to them. Do your homework. There are sites that rate these websites as to whether or not its probably a scam. Look at the website. How long have they been in business? Does the name of the website match the logo they are using. What is their contact information. If it is just an email address, I am skeptical. I have seen so many of these ads offering really low priced items. You are not getting a mobility cart/chair for $40. You are not getting a whole set of Le Creuset cookware for $30 or $40. You are not getting a pound of king crab legs for $8 (it sells for $70 or more per pound). Just be extremely wary and particularly when you give a credit card or debit card. Best wishes to everyone!!

Hello.
Did any of us who were ripped off in the fake Sam Ash scam in early summer 2024 use a Credit Union issued VISA? The reason I ask is because, after 4 months of providing every piece of written evidence to substantiate my case, my credit union just denied my claim for the nonexistent $129.98 intermediate Yamaha Soprano Saxophone. Strangely enough my bank debit card instantly returned my $129.98 for a simlarly non-existent Yahama Intermediate Alto Sax I also purchased. Believe me, it's embarassing to admit that I fell for anyone selling a $129.98, twice within five minutes, even it seemed to be the bankrupt warehouse-closing Sam Ash, but I guess you had to be there. 🙂
Anyway, I was always told that credit cards were safer than debit cards and that credit union credit cards were safer than for profit bank credit cards.
In this case it was the exact opposite. I just want to know if I'm the only one.
If you're still out of $129.98 and you used a credit union VISA please respond to this post.
Let's get our money back!
Thanks,
JD156
