Proof of transaction - Dispute

I have been out of the loop for some time so help me understand something.

I have read the terms and it appears you are under the Buyer's protections as long as your transactions involve the purchase or sale of tangible goods that also involve shipping (Meaning, not face to face deals).
Say I have bought or sold an item on Craigslist or *insert random third party marketplace*, how exactly I can dispute/fight a dispute? In older times there was a very clear distinction between goods, and friends or family transactions, or in the ebay/paypal times all the steps of a transaction were clearly recorded. But now?
I can chat a dude on FB marketplace, agree to buy something, he sends a request/or I send the money, I receive either nothing or bricks, how do I prove I m not an elephant?

Goods/Services Payments. (buyer protection).

1. Invoice or Money Request.
2. Send money > Goods/Services.
3. Paypal.me link (if its a personal account then there should be the option to tick a box to make it a goods/services payment before you submit payment).

Friends/Family Payments.(no buyer protection).

1. Send money > friends / family (or trusted person).
2. Paypal.me link from a personal account where you don't select the option to make it a goods/services payment.

Buyer protection.

Put the correct email address in and then on the next page you should get the options.
