Digital river is an ecommerce payment company. They don't fraudulently take your money. They partner with companies like Samsung, Microsoft, razr, McAfee, avast, etc. If you buy from those websites, your charge may show up as from digital river. They also handle subscriptions. A lot of times what happens is people accept a free trial for a product, like anti virus, and forget to cancel and it auto renews. Be careful what you are accepting.

Kudos / Solution appreciated.

maybe not technically fraud but definitely underhanded and morally cynical way of extracting money from people without their explicit understood request for a service. Hardly defensible and paypal should be ashamed to be associated with this type of behaviour. Are we undefended in this 'my opinion ' fraud

So because you don't understand when you take out a subscription, it's fraud, interesting. 😁

A payment was taken from my bank card on 3rd May 2022 of £78.99 by Digital River Ireland. I have no record of this transaction. How can I check what the payment was for or if it was even a legitimate deduction?

Many companies partner with Digital River to process subscriptions for them and Paypal IS ONE of the many payment processors that they use.
Just like other companies that offer credit card, bank account, paypal and other payment processors as payment options.
Maybe tell the card companies not to partner with Digital River either???
