What do you do if someone has hacked your account?

What do you do if someone has hacked your PayPal account? My son had a series of emails notifying him that he’d changed his phone number email and password and set up a business account. Before he could log in he was locked out and therefore can’t lodge a case with PayPal. He had a linked bank account which I assume is now compromised.

Hello @navlei

Welcome to the PayPal Community!

It sounds like someone was able to log into your son's PayPal account and changed the login credentials, which is now preventing him from resetting them. I'm very sorry to hear about this. Since he cannot log into the account, please have him reach out to Customer Support. He can contact Customer Support on Twitter by sending DM to @AskPayPal or a PM on Facebook by going to facebook.com/PayPal. Support may also be reached by clicking 'Contact' at the bottom of any PayPal webpage.

After they're able to help him file an unauthorized dispute and reset his password, I suggest having him set up 2-Step Verification for another layer of security on his account. Please let him know that his linked bank account will still be safe. Even if someone is able to log into the account, they will not be able to see his full banking details. We hide all but the last four digits, so they wouldn't be able to use the information anywhere else.

I hope he can log into the account and file the unauthorized dispute soon!
